Difficult time for Sri Lankans
Sri Lanka, my motherland is facing its most difficult time since Independence. Sri Lanka was once known as the granary of East but these days we are facing a huge economic crisis. Almost every person in Sri Lanka is suffering because of this reason. Now Sri Lanka is actually an economically condemned country. So it is very difficult to stand up from this position.
This economic crisis is not a thing that suddenly popped up. It is the result of many wrong decisions that have been taken by Sri Lankan politicians since Independence. And because of Covid-19, the crisis has become quicker and worse. And the Sri Lankan Rupee value decreased by 100%. With foreign debt of more than 50 billion dollars, it is impossible to take a loan to stabilize the economy.
There is a huge lack of important goods in Sri Lanka. There are Fuel (Petroleum Liquids) and L.P. Gas among them. And due to the difficulties of importing fuel for power plants, there is daily shortage of electricity.
Food items are getting expensive. Some Sri Lankan families cannot afford all 3 meals. Also there is a lack of food items and other important goods. Even if you have money, there are no many things to buy.
Several deaths have also been reported in queues for essential goods. Due to the lack of fuel, public transportation also has become incapacitated. And private vehicles have also got no fuel. So because of these reasons buses and trains carrying two times more than its capacity.
