Plagiarism means copying someone's work without giving the person proper credit. it can also mean claiming someone's work as your original work.

Types of plagiarism.
there are different types of plagiarism but I will talk about a few such as

  1. Deliberate Plagiarism
this is the act of attempting someone else's work as your own. it is the most common form of plagiarism.

  2. Paraphrasing.
it is the act of altering a few words but retaining the same sentence structure used by the original owner in the work. it is one of the common type of plagiarism among students. this type of plagiarism does not occur by accident but by a deliberate action

  3. Patchwork Paraphrasing
this is the same as paraphrasing plagiarism but with a slight difference. it involves stealing words and ideas ffrom different source texts and putting them together to form your own work without giving the sources proper credit.

  4. Mosaic plagiarism.
This is when someone changes a word in another author's work with a synonym in an attempt to make the work thier own. Though some people believe it may be an accident but it is an act of deceit because it is a deliberate act

  5. Inaccurate authorship.
This type of plagiarism is when a writer uses more than one source for his work and giving credit to only one source. For example, a writer uses the work of 5 different authors for his work and while citing the work, he only cited 2 out of the 5 authors.

How to avoid plagiarism

  1. One can avoid plagiarism by getting awareness about what plagiarism is and the different types of plagiarism.
  2. can also be avoided by writing an original piece.
  3. giving proper credit to an author when you copy thier work.

Citation is when you properly acknowledge the original author of a work. In other words it can be tagged the opposite of plagiarism

Below is an example of a good citation.

“A recipe has no soul. You, as the cook, must bring soul to the recipe.”
–Thomas Keller
