Achievement 2 : Basic Security on Steem
Greeting everyone,
Steemit has a lot of passwords. talking of the various keys, I've retrieved all the different types of keys. I have saved all the various keys in my Gmail and also stored them on my google drive and other duplicates on my personal diary (hard copy).
Types of Keys on Steemit
Active key
The active key is also used for converting sbd to steem, changing profiles, and also transferring steem tokens. The active key is used to confirm transactions.
Posting Key
The posting key is used for commenting, posting, voting, and editing posts. When you create a new steemit account, the posting key is needed to log in and run the activities on the platform.
Owner Key
The owner key is used to reset the other keys. The owner key can also be used to complete transactions just like the active key.
Memo key
The memo key is also used on encrypted messages for viewing and sending them. The memo key helps to decrypt encrypted messages.
Master key
The master is used to retrieve all the various types of keys. Just as the name implies, the master key is the most important.
How I secured my master key
I have saved my master key in three different ways. I initially saved my master key in my Gmail account for easy access. Afterward, I saved the key as a soft copy on my computer hard drive. Finally, Write it letter by letter in my diary book.
Transfer steem token to a friend
To transfer steem token to a friend, follow these steps;
Go to wallet at the top right corner
click on wallet
- From the page that appears, click on the steem tokens
- From the drop-down menu, click on transfer
- Enter the receivers username and amount to be transferred and click next
- Active key or owner key would be needed to complete the transaction
How to power up
- Before you power up your steem.
- Goto wallet at the top right corner.
-Click on the wallet.
- From the page that appears, click on the steem tokens
- from the drop-down menu,click on the power-up
- enter the amount of steem to be powered and click power up
- Click OK on the next confirmation popup that appears
