Desde muy pequeña, mi mamá y mi tía siempre me han dicho "si vas a hacer algo ¡hazlo genial!", esa frase no la entendí hasta que fui creciendo y fui leyendo más, investigando más, conociendo más el mundo, viendo que no todo era ir de la casa al colegio y de regreso a casa ¡Hay muchísimo más! A la corta de edad de 10 años (creo que menos pero vamos a poner esa porque no estoy segura) comencé la exploración de libros grandes como Harry Potter (me los leí todos), Las Crónicas de Narnia, entre muchos otros (en un día me leí El Alquimista de Paulo Coelho). Ustedes dirán, ¿qué tiene que ver esto con la buena escritura? ¡Es fundamental!

Since I was very young, my mom and my aunt have always told me "if you're going to do something, do it great!", that phrase I didn't understand until I grew up and went on reading more, researching more, getting to know the world more, seeing that it wasn't all about going from home to school and back home. At the young age of 10 (I think less, but let's put that one in because I'm not sure) I started exploring big books like Harry Potter (I read them all), The Chronicles of Narnia, among many others (in one day I read The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho). You might say, what does this have to do with good writing? It's fundamental!

¿Cómo aprendes a escribir? ¡Leyendo! ¿Cómo sabes que escribes bien una palabra? Porque la buscas en el diccionario del móvil o en un físico en casa. Lo importante de escribir bien es que te muestra como una persona con educación, con cierta preocupación por tu manera de mostrarte al mundo, sobre todo este mundo en el que hoy nos desenvolvemos que es digital ¿y cómo nos comunicamos en él? A través de la escritura y la lectura.

Mi recomendación para ti, que estás siendo victima de la era digital, es que te lo tomes con calma. Los mensajes de WhatsApp no son más económicos por escribir "q" en vez de "que", ni escribir "xq" en vez de "porque". Lee, instruye tu cerebro, nutre tu cerebro y la literatura también nutre el alma.

My recommendation to you, who are being victimized by the digital age, is to take it easy. WhatsApp messages are not cheaper for writing "4" instead of "for", nor are they cheaper for writing "cause" instead of "because". Read, instruct your brain, nourish your brain and literature nourishes the soul too.

Escribir de esa forma recortada pone lento tu cerebro y te hace escribir así en todos lados. Lo vi en compañeros de liceo y de la universidad que escribían igual en sus cuadernos como en sus mensajes de texto o WhatsApp. También cometemos el error de creer que el receptor de nuestro mensaje entenderá el uso de ese tipo de abreviaturas o la falta de signos de puntuación y no es así, las frases tienen mejor coherencia si las escribes con sus signos de puntuación correctos, y si es final, coloca punto.

Writing in that cut-out way slows down your brain and makes you write like that everywhere. I've seen it in high school and college classmates who write the same way in their notebooks as they do in their text messages or WhatsApp. We also make the mistake of believing that the recipient of our message will understand the use of such abbreviations or lack of punctuation and it's not like that, sentences have better consistency if you write them with their correct punctuation, and if it's final, dot it.
