Achievement 3|| Plagiarism: A legal perespectivesteemCreated with Sketch.

The word plagiarism has been derived from the Latin word plagiare, which means to kidnap or abduct. Source. Through this task people have touched almost every aspect of plagiarism, so I will slightly touch a legal side of it. Plagiarism, in short, means stealing the work of someone else and passing it as your own, without giving credit to the person to who it belongs.

Why is plagiarism wrong?

It takes a lot of mental labour to create any work and that creation becomes the intellectual property of the creator.
Intellectual property includes ideas, inventions, original work of authorship, words, slogans, design, figures etc.

The intellectual property holder is very much entitled to bear the fruits of his creation; his production is the outcome of tremendous mental labour. It is unethical to use someone's work without permission or without giving credit to him.

Apart from being unethical plagiarism can amount to fraud and cheating. It can also invite the charges of copyright infringement if the work copied without permission is protected by copyright.

Section 57 of the ‘Indian Copyright Act’ offers the author protection against any unauthorized use of his work, including plagiarism.
Section 63 of the Indian Copyright Act act considers copyright infringement as a criminal offence. The punishment may include imprisonment for 6 months to 3 years. Source

Most of the countries have stringent Intellectual property laws to protect the original work of a person from unauthorised use, distortion, misrepresentation and misappropriation.

On steemit only original content gets rewards. It is highly advisable to use your brain instead of resorting to plagiarism. In case you copy anything from any website, book, or another source, you must give proper credits.

How to give credits and?

I have taken the opening lines of this post from another website but I have given proper credits to that website by hyperlinking it in the word "Source" which appears in blue.
This screenshot will give you the idea of hyperlinking:

In this screen grab you can see how can we cite a sourse by using these brackets [ ] & ( ) before and afer the word 'source' and before and after the link.
Similarly, I have taken the image from a particular website and source of the image is given against it.

I have consulted This , This and This article while using this post. @cryptokannon

I have read and understood the Steemit Etiquette on Steemit Community and will do my best to embrace them
