Topic of the Week Contest Entry: My Personal Best by @seesladen

This is my first post in this community, and I am pleased to be participating in this contest organized by the wonderful @slon21veka.

Today, I will be telling you about what I consider to be My Personal Best, which is the theme of this week's contest.

So, without much ado, I will begin...

The event that I will consider to be my personal best is one which occurred while I was still in the University, about seven long years ago. It involved a girl who was also a course-mate of mine.

We had both written a test in Symbolic Logic, and she had scored 6 out of a total of 40 marks. I met her outside the department building, crying. When I asked her why she cried, she explained to me her situation, and that she felt she was going to fail the course.

I was touched by her predicament, and at that spot, I promised her that she would not fail, and that I will do what I could to help her out. That day I decided that I was going to start a tutorial class on Symbolic logic.

So I started teaching Elizabeth (for that is her name). Every week, I taught her what had been taught in class, explaining in simple terms the rules, the steps, the process. I assisted with the theorems, the translation processes, ensuring that she understood everything in basic simple steps.

When exams came around, she ended up scoring an unbelievable 60 marks out of the 60 marks due for the exam. She ended up with a 66 out of 100, and a B grade on that course.

After that event, I continued to tutor her, alongside other course-mates of mine that needed assistance in other related courses. I did that until we all graduated. But I consider my impact in Elizabeth's Symbolic Logic exam, my personal best in terms of the effect I have had on someone academically.

Guess what, Elizabeth and I will also be getting married sometime this year, and we have started our traditional rites process already, and it all started from this story of my personal best. I wrote about it here. Feel free to visit and see the wonderful pictures.
