Well a close friend to me is thesame as a best friend.
This is someone whom you share everything with be it your pain or joy. It does not necessarily mean that you people talk 24/7 or round the clock but you two are close to each other.

A close friend is that friend who you can freely tell your secrets or worries or successes to. You can share it with them and they too do same with you. Without any fear of telling others or using them against you.

I think calling someone a close fried shouldn't be one sided like my close friend should not have another or a different close friend.
