La Boca - Buenos Aires

Today I will take you to the street of Caminito in La Boca district, Buenos Aires. It's a very touristic area, known as the center of the tango and Argentinian bohemian culture, in general.

The whole district is very colorful, maybe a bit artificial, like every tourist destination, but even if so, it still keeps its charm that moves us to the XIXth century. Walking on the crowded streets, taking coffee in one of the multiple cafeterias, and watching the street artist dancing the tango is the essence of the Argentinian vibe and it would be hard to imagine any other place in Buenos Aires that could be more recognizable and photographed that this lovely, tiny area.

Like with many places of that kind in most of the biggest cities in the world, it's easier to find a hotel or hostel here than the apartments where locals live. It doesn't mean that La Boca is booked exclusively for the visitors from out of Buenos Aires though. Citizens of the capital city visit it to participate in magnificent cultural events or... to participate in political meetings. Yes, la Boca is the center of the political parties and organizations, mostly socialistic or social-democratic.

La Boca is the very first district of the city. Here, in XVIth century, the first Europeans created the village that, with time, transformed into a huge metropolis. The name, which means "mouth" refers to the location where the Parana river meets with the Ocean, creating on the map the shape of the opened mouth.

Even though right now colorful houses and paints are reconstructed strictly for touristic reasons, the first colorful houses were made by the locals to... hide the poverty and ugliness of their houses. Poor citizens usually didn't have enough paint to cover all houses in one color, and that's why you can see that all buildings are in multiple colorful squares.

I have visited Buenos Aires only for a day, while I was taking the plane to Europe from there. That's why when I am talking about this city, I used to say that I don't know it yet and that it's one of those destinations that await me. Now, when the situation with Covid is getting better, I know that I will be able to visit Buenos Aires for several days in 2022. Hopefully, I will manage to make more amazing photos of the street art, that I will proudly present to you in the future.

I would like to invite to the contest my friends: @willeusz @geos90 and @bellana
