Graffiti Of My City Contest No. 45 - DAVAO CITY, Life Is Here

Hello everyone. This is the Graffiti Of My City Contest No. 45 hosted by @slon21veka. If you don't know about this contest yet just click on the link here and hopefully you can join in on the excitement.

As you know I live in Davao City in the Philippines. Our city is being promoted as the safest and cleanest city in the country. It is also advertised as the best city to enjoy living, whether temporarily or permanently. Most local tourists end up migrating to Davao City because of the numerous job and business opportunities here. It is safe and virtually drug-free. And there are so many beach resorts one can go to enjoy a swim or a tan or a sea breeze.

The tourism "come on" for Davao City is seen below.

This sign can be seen almost everywhere in the city. The mural above was taken outside the Davao City Philippine National Police (PNP) Headquarters located at San Pedro St. Extension along with other wall paintings which I will feature in the coming weeks. Here's an idea of what the wall looks like (see photo below).

People here are so used to seeing this sign everywhere in the city that no one pays much attention to them, except for tourists. But what is not obvious, even to me, are the illustrations of what Davao is famous for painted on the letters. See below.

Under the letter D of Davao is a painting of the head of the Philippines Eagle, the biggest monkey eating eagle in the world found only in the island of Mindanao where Davao is.

For the first A of Davao is the painting of the tallest mountain in the Philippines found in Davao. It is called Mt. Apo. It is a dormant volcano which last erupted in the 16th century.

On the letter V is painted a picture of a tribesman, a Manobo, whic is one of the ancestral tribes of the City.

On the second A of Davao, one can see the inside of the durian fruit, a very pungent but heavenly tasty fruit which is only grown in Davao City and some parts of Mindanao.

The last letter is O and over it is painted an orchid, the Waling-waling in particular which is known as the Queen of Orchids.

This famous orchid can also be seen all over the city streets as seen below.
