I barely read the title and what I will tell you came to mind. Maybe for some this is not so scary but for me it was.

Apenas leí el título y se me vino a la mente lo que les contaré. Tal vez para algunos esto no sea tan terrorífico pero para mi lo fue.

This happened in 2010, when my oldest daughter was just a few months old, the day was rainy and we had to go to the center of Caracas to look for a batch of shirts that we had bought to sell. That day my sister was at home and we asked her to come up with us but she did not want to go up. We insisted many times until she accepted.

Esto sucedió en el año 2010, cuando mi hija mayor tenía apenas unos meses de haber nacido, el día estaba lluvioso y nosotros debíamos ir al centro de Caracas a buscar un lote de camisas que habíamos comprado para vender. Ese día mi hermana estaba en casa y le dijimos para que subiera con nosotros pero ella no quería subir. Insistimos muchas veces hasta que ella aceptó.

My husband was driving, he is a person who drives with great caution, he always does it through the middle channel because he says that if something comes up ahead, one has the opportunity to take one of the channels that we have on the sides.

Mi esposo iba manejando, él es una persona que maneja con mucho precaución, siempre lo hace por el canal del medio porque dice que en caso de presentarse algo adelante, uno tiene la oportunidad de tomar alguno de los canales que tenemos a los lados.

He was driving slowly, my sister and I were sitting in the back seats and I was breastfeeding my daughter. Suddenly a car that was going at high speed tailed and crashed us... all that happens in seconds, it was so fast that I just asked: What happened? !!

Él Iba manejando a poca velocidad, mi hermana y yo estábamos sentadas en los asientos de atrás y yo iba amamantando a mi hija. De repente un carro que iba a alta velocidad se coleó y nos chocó... todo eso ocurre en segundos, fue tan rápido que yo solo pregunté: Qué pasó?!!

I didn't see the moment when they hit us because I was talking to my sister, I only felt when I hit my sister's head with my head, and my sister hit the window glass with her forehead, so I squeezed my daughter with great force to the point that I thought I had hurt her because she started screaming a lot.

Yo no vi el momento cuando nos chocaron porque iba hablando con mi hermana, solo sentí cuando golpee la cabeza de mi hermana con mi cabeza, y mi hermana golpeó el vidrio de la ventana con su frente, entonces yo apreté con mucha fuerza a mi hija al punto que pensé que yo la había lastimado porque ella empezó a gritar mucho.

The terrifying thing was to see through the rear windshield how the other cars were coming on that highway and in the middle of the curve and we there in the middle of the road, I felt that they were going to take us through the middle and that is where our lives would go. Thank God my husband is a very focused person and his nerves do not dominate him as is my case...

Lo terrorífico fue ver por el parabrisa trasero como venían los otros carros en esa autopista y en plena curva y nosotros allí en el medio de la vía, sentía que nos iban a llevar por el medio y hasta allí llegarían nuestras vidas. Gracias a Dios mi esposo es una persona muy centrada y que los nervios no lo dominan como es mi caso...

He knew how to have control in that situation, he was able to reach the edge of the road, God protected us at all times. We called 911 and they quickly sent the ambulance and took us to the nearest clinic, my sister was the one who took the hardest hit... she who did not want to go out and had to live that bad experience. Thank God there was nothing serious to regret, but the moment was one of anguish.

Él supo tener control en esa situación, pudo llegar a la orilla de la vía, Dios nos protegió en todo momento. Llamamos al 911 y enviaron rápidamente la ambulancia y nos llevaron a la clínica más cercana, mi hermana fue la que llevó el golpe más fuerte... ella que no quería salir y tuvo que vivir esa mala experiencia. Gracias a Dios no hubo nada grave qué lamentar, pero el momento fue de angustia.

My daughter was examined several times at the clinic because she would not stop crying, I came to think that maybe I broke a bone her because she was a baby and I squeezed her very hard when the accident happened, apparently it was the scare that her made her cry a lot because she calmed down when I breastfed her again.

A mi hija la examinaron varias veces en la clínica porque no paraba de llorar, yo llegué a pensar que tal vez le rompí algún hueso porque ella era una bebé y yo la apreté muy fuerte cuando ocurrió el accidente, al parecer fue el susto que la hizo llorar mucho porque se calmó cuando volví a amamantarla.

Even though that happened 11 years ago, today I am terrified of driving when it rains. If I'm at home and have to go out, I wait for the rain to stop, but when I'm on the road and it starts to rain, I drive under a lot of stress, because that day I realized that sometimes it's not about how prudent we are to drive but on how prudent others are as well ... my husband is very cautious but that boy from the other car was not.

A pesar que eso sucedió hace 11 años, hoy en día me da terror manejar cuando llueve. Si estoy en casa y debo salir espero a que se acabe la lluvia pero cuando ya estoy en el camino y empieza a llover, manejo bajo mucha tensión, porque aquel día me di cuenta que a veces no se trata de lo prudente que seamos al manejar, sino de lo prudente que sean también los demás... mi esposo es muy cauteloso pero ese muchacho del otro carro no lo fue.
