Scottish Festival HOGMANAY |
---|
There are many national Holidays in Scotland and I already mentioned some of them before, but today I wanted to tell about this one which is considered to be one of the famous and important Holiday in Scotland but also something very different from holidays in other countries.
I have heard about this holiday when we first year in Scotland and celebrated New Year, HOGMANAY this is the holiday when old year is going and new year is coming. Every part of Scotland is preparing for that, the bigger the cities more people taking part in that.*
When the clocks beat 12 midnight, that is the time for Torch Procession, there are people dressed in Vikings consumes and of course they have Torches with Fire, the procession goes from along the main street and often we have news channels filming that from the height. It looks like a river of fire.
Edinburgh is very famous of its celebration, many tourists coming only for this celebration to capital of Scotland. Actually every city in Scotland has its own Hogmanay, my favourite is in Shetland, this is a small Island in North of Scotland where they burn Viking galley
Another tradition during these day is a Song, that will be sang in midnight written by Robert Burns' poem Auld Lang Syne. First time I heard this song again on television on our first New Year that we spent in Scotland.
Slowly, we starting live those traditions and they become our traditions too. I hope that you also discovered for you something new from Scottish culture.
I would like to invite @davidad, @amjadali00, @hudamalik20 for this challenge
I have so far read about the national festivals of many countries and know the rules or methods of celebrating them. But the way of celebrating this national festival of Scotland is the most interesting to me where people from all walks of life stand with torches at night to usher in the new year. And at twelve o'clock at night Bazar immediately started the procession of Mars with that bright torch. Keep up the good work.
