Hello friends, it is time for season 17 of steemit crypto engagement.

The earth was beautifully created by the Almighty. Each country and continent have seasons unique to them. There are several seasons that occurs in the world. They are autumn, spring, harmattan, summer, dry season, rainy season, etc.

This contest topic Season of My Country hosted by @steem4bangladesh is about the season that I have in the country. The contest topics will serve as a guide to explore the topic more.

How many seasons in your country? Which one is your favorite and why?

Nigeria is a lovely country blessed by various fauna and flora. Almost all round the year, we have an abundance of fruits and veggies that abound, providing a source of food and income generation for its residents.

There are basically 3 seasons that we have in my country Nigeria. They are listed below.

° Dry season

° Rainy season

° Harmattan Season.

Some decades ago, it was very easy to differentiate and even predict the season using the months and times they occur. But recently, it is becoming very difficult to know when each has started and when it stops. Most probably, global warming have altered some natural processes making it more difficult to identify when and how long these seasons will stay.

About which season that Is my favorite, the harmattan season is the best for me. Why, because the weather will not be hot, which is what happens during the dry season which usually subject many to suffer from dehydration, heat waves that comes with so many diseases and illness, inability to sleep comfortably at night.

So the harmattan balances the moisture in the air, not so much sunshine that weakens us, no much rainfall which brings about cold and other lung problems due to cold in our body system.

So the harmattan season balances all the effects of the other two seasons and makes time more pleasurable for people.

If there was one season you wanted to skip forever, which one would it be? Explain the reason.

Hahahah, answering this question just as it is stated is to show my lack of appreciation for the things around me.

Each of the seasons comes with its goodies and bounties. Certain foods and fruits produces only during rainy season , dry season and harmattan season. They all have a work to perform in maintaining the earths ecosystem.

So in as much as I have my favorite season, I still love all the 3 seasons.

So I love the 3 of them and would not want any to be removed. Unless the Almighty wants to remove it, then he must have known what to do to balance it or to make up for the one that is removed.

Describe a traditional or special activity that people in your country do during a particular season.

As a young child I had the privilege of sitting out with my mother while she tells us the children folklores and traditional songs. This is usually done sitting under a very big tree. What makes it possible is due to the full moon that was always present during the harmattan season.

Many sit outside the house under a tree taking palm wine and some bushmeat caught by hunters.

It is also a time when many travel to there villages to see their loved ones. Many fix occasions like marriage ceremonies, etc with the assurance that rain would not disturb the occasion.

I also love travelling this period because in my hometown, that is when most people come home since majority of them lives in very far away cities.

IMG_20240409_011531_462.jpgone of the harmattan seasons that I travelled to meet my sister in-law and Auntie that came back home

It is also a time for festivals like the traditional retirement in my hometown where those who have passed certain age are honoured and told to stop any form of village work excerpt their own personal work. It is just like retiring from active service. It is usually a very huge festival in my village. One was just done last 2 Decembers and I was a witness to it. It was very colourful. And to crown it all, I had the visit of my brother and his family from the USA.

It was closely followed by other ceremonies like the masquerades, the public yam roasting and others.

Are there any special foods or drinks that people in your country enjoy most during certain seasons? If so, what is it and why?

There are no special food enjoyed in my place during these seasons. What we eat during the dry and rainy season, is just the same with the harmattan except foods that are seasonal.

The only difference in the things we eat is just the fruits that come with each season Every season comes with different sets of fruits which disappears after a short while.

Like the Udara star (apple) fruit, the orange becomes surplus, the tomatoes becomes much and others.

We have the corn or Maize, the native pears, the mangoes, the yam and so on that are much during the rainy season.

So apart from these seasonal fruits and foods, there is no special food for each season.

The above are some seasonal fruits. Not that you won't see them in other sessions but when it is their season, they become abundance and cheaper too

Conclusion

All the 3 seasons mentioned above are important for living in my country. As they come and go, so the fruits that comes with each of them. This brings about varieties which adds spice to life in general.

If I am to choose, I will like to choose the harmattan season as my favourite but I still want all seasons to be in place due to their benefits.

I will like @impersonal @creacionesmkr @patjewell @sduttaskitchen @kouba01 @irawandedy to take part. here

I really appreciate your comment

I can see that the yearly seasons listed has their significant roles that’s why you were unable to choose between them. Some seasonal fruits like; mango and star apple are always in abundance.
The harmattan period is well known for celebration and get together.

Nice input on the topic!
Many success in the challenge!

Thank you so much for your comment

The essay on "Season of your Country" explores the unique seasons experienced in Nigeria. The dry season, rainy season, and harmattan season each offer different benefits and challenges. Traditional activities, such as storytelling under a full moon, and special occasions, like traditional retirements, are enjoyed during specific seasons. Special foods and fruits are abundant during each season, adding variety to the diet. Despite having a favorite season, the importance of all three seasons for the ecosystem and daily life is emphasized. Seasonal changes bring about a rich cultural experience that enhances the quality of life in Nigeria.
