Steemit Engagement Challenge S8W1 || "The Power of Social Media"

In this new week, I'm happy to be here with another meaningful topic for the present world. Social media had been doing a major role in our lives for the past few years the good and the bad sides. It had both positive and negative effects on people's life. Let me share with you how I feel about steemit.

How old are you when you start engaging in social media and how was your experience so far?

In my childhood, I didn't have a mobile phone or a laptop to be aware of social media. I'm not a big fan of social media by the way. I got my first mobile phone when I got selected to the university. At that time social media was less popular among us.

I didn't have any social media when studying. In my final year of the university, I created a Facebook account. I added only a few of my school friends and I didn't know how to like, comment, or share the posts. By that time I learned how to like comment and share posts on Facebook. Then once I heard about Instagram and created an account. But as it was less popular in my community I give up using Instagram.

At the moment I actually check updates on the world from my social media accounts and I also learn many things that I don't know. It had been positively affected me as I find many sellers to buy clothes, jewelry, and other accessories from social media pages.

In your opinion, what is the right age for people to have access to social media?

In my opinion, the right age for people to use social media after they complete higher education is because teenagers in the present world cannot control their emotions so they tend to take quick decisions that sometimes affect on them negatively.

Social media should be used by individuals who can understand the negative and positive effects of them and also the people who have the ability to understand the nature of social media. Social media can corrupt individual's minds and as well as it can provide guidance to many fields for people to enhance their lives.

So I think an individual despite the age should use social media if he or she is capable of understanding the good and bad effects of them.

What can you say to people who are no longer responsible for managing their social media accounts?

As well-educated individuals, all should have a good responsibility for the management of social media accounts. There are different pages that sometimes damage people's personalities. We should be aware of such unnecessary influences.

We manage social media accounts as we need and we wish to build social relationships we love to explore the world, share ideas, meet new friends, etc... But we should know always to study what we do on social media, especially about what we publish to the community and what will cause by that publication. We should be responsible of what we release to social media and about others as well.

What do you think our future will be with this social media power?

At present as I said social media plays a major role and the young generation is highly addicted to social media. At present also children get updates on the world from social media and the emotions of the youth are controlled by social media.

Some children are arrogant, some are isolated, some are so much friendly etc.. These come with the influence of social media at present. It has been difficult even for the parents to control them. The future will be worse than this. We should teach the younger ones to manage social media to avoid the risk of ruining their lives by social media.

Give the advantages and disadvantages of social media in your life.

For my life as a person who has perfectly managed my social media I don't face any risks so Personally, all are advantages for me but as a whole, I will speak about the advantages and disadvantages of social media. As an advantage, I always see there are lots of businesses promoted by social media pages. New opportunities are created via social media platforms.

As a main disadvantage, I feel people get addicted to social media. Some uneducated people use social media to ruin the personalities of other people. Some cases ended up with suicides.

What are the commonly used social media in your country? And categorize it.

In Sri Lanka we use Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, etc... Youtube is most commonly used as well. Facebook, Instagram, and Youtube are mostly used for business promotions.
