In my country (Nigeria), there are several street food you can find on a daily basis. Most of these street food are sold in the morning while some are sold in the evening.

Here are some street food in Nigeria which are very popular and can be found in different part of Nigeria;

  • Suya
  • Akara
  • Bole ( roasted plantain)
  • Puff puff

By using the contest tips as guideline I will pick one of the famous street food and explain what the food contains, how to prepare it, why it became popular and how much it is being sold in steem.
One of the famous street food in my environment is Akara ( beans cake).

This street snack is a golden fritter that is made from blended beans (black eye peas). This food is usually seen in every street during morning hour. Due to the fact that it is breakfast dish, everyone likes buying it because it can be combined with several meals like; bread, pap ( corn pudding), custard and soaked garri (finely ground cassava flakes that is soaked in cold water). Akara and bread can be called akara burger.

Let's see the ingredients used in preparing this street food;

  • Beans
  • Onions
  • Fresh pepper
  • Salt
  • Maggi
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Water
How to Prepare Akara

Akara is very easy to prepare at home or anywhere at any given time.

  • The fist step is to soak the beans, remove the beans coat by peeling it out and wash.
  • Grind the beans using blender, street food seller uses machine because of the quantity of the beans
  • Pour the blended beans into the mortar
  • Stir with pestle gently in a continuous motion (circular form) add some pressure afterwards till the blended beans appears whiter with it's peculiar beans aroma
  • Add a little water
  • Put other ingredients ( maggi, onions and fresh pepper)
  • stir thoroughly
  • Set oil to hot
  • Add salt last and stir for a while
  • Scoop the mixture with measurements spoon and slowly put into the oil.

  • Let it fry for a while till brown before flipping to fry the other side.
  • Lastly, when it is all brown, remove and put them in sieve to drain the oil out.
The Selling price of Akara in Steem

The street food sellers who sells Akara; produce it in a way that anyone can afford. Akara ranges from 0.2, 0.4 to 0.8 steem. It depends on the quantity you want to get that will be satisfying.

What Made Akara Famous

Since it is a popular street food in Nigeria and it is of high demand, the sellers are always consistent in the business. As early as 6:30am, you can find them outside frying which serves the buyer from going through breakfast stress or meal arrangement. There is always joy in knowing that your breakfast for the next day will be ready at any time.

I will invite @eliany, @mvchain and @nadiaturrina to join the contest.
