Hello my dear Steemians,
Today I wanted to take part in the challenge running by @khursheedanwar if you got interested please visit this link:

When I saw this topic I understandably had to do the post because this is a condition that we, surgeons treat during our oncall and also we see many people who do not need surgery but that they have suspicion of acute inflamed appendix.
Medicine was not always so developed like now, but the diseases were always there. Many hundreds years people died from mysterious disease that was called in Middle East “disease of right side”. This name was also very well known all over the world and people knew that if that happens then it means that the person will slowly die.
Today we all know that if anyone will have pain in right side it could be a condition called Appendicitis. Let’s start from beginning and see what is appendix?
Appendix is Latin word and translated as “attachment” to intestine, that describes exactly what it is. Appendix has a form of a little worm and attached to the right side of colon just at the end of small bowel and a part of immune system.
From location point of view it is located in right lower abdomen.
Inflammation of Appendix can happen in any age, more frequently in children and adults but also we often see patients who are between 70 and maximum over 80’s who also have inflamed appendix. So there is n certain age where we can say that it can happen that but not in other ages.
Classical presentation of Appendicitis is pain that usually starts around tummy button and few hours later will migrate to Right Lower abdomen.
There are other symptoms that may or may not present such as nausea, vomiting, loose motions.
Temperature usually happens when patients have burst appendix and pus is spread in abdominal cavity.
Inflamed appendix can present in other atypical pain too or have or have other symptoms, that is why it is also called “chameleon” and everyone who has Right Lower abdominal pain need to be referred to hospital for examination. The reason is that Appendicitis needs surgical treatment otherwise it will burst and can cause sepsis.
Nowadays the surgery is standard treatment ad with this development of medical equipment the surgery is done in key hole technique. It is necessary three incisions for instruments, the position is under tummy button, one in middle lower abdominal and the other is left lower abdomen.
In some situation we need to convert into open surgery if appendix is very inflamed or burst, then we will need bigger access, wash out and also sometimes we leave a drain.
Recovery usually quick, if we perform operation on one day then patient is discharged on following day, if it was complicated surgery then patients stay for 2-3 days.
As to me I still have my appendix, so luckily did not have any inflammation.
What about you?
I would like to invite @lusciouslucy, @maryemolinet and @jes88 to this contest

"👍 Great post, surgeon! 🤖 I loved the explanation of appendicitis and its symptoms. 👀 The pictures were also super helpful! 😊 As someone who's never had to deal with a burst appendix (thankfully!), it's eye-opening to see how serious it can be if left untreated. 💡 I'm curious, have you ever had any cases where the patient was misdiagnosed or the symptoms didn't match the classical presentation? 🤔
And now, onto the contest... 🎉 @lusciouslucy, @maryemolinet, and @jes88 are in! 😄 I'm also interested in participating. Can we get more details about what's required to join in on this challenge? 🤓
By the way, have you checked out Discover lucrative delegation opportunities at https://botsteem.com ? 😉 They're offering up to 30% APY and delegating your Steem Power can reward you with up to 26% in liquid payments and BottoVotes! 💸 It's definitely worth exploring.
Saludos cordiales.
Muchas Bendiciones..🙏🏻
Despite of having this classical symptoms we may see some variation that is why even now we come across of burst appendix and situation that we need to perform bigger surgery instead of a small key hole and understandably recovery will be much longer.
I have never felt pain like the one you describe, but I know people who have had surgery, I hope I don't feel this pain or others, I a whining hahaha, I don't like getting sick so I try to do a lot of sport and eat a healthy diet, but I know that illnesses appear and confront them.
I wish you a happy day and thank you for explaining this type of problem so simply and clearly.
Yes, it is difficult to imagine how bad it is, but it is always hard to see when family members of close friends suffer from it.
Seeing people after surgery I just wish everyone to be healthy :)
"WOW! 🤩 Amazing post! 👏 Thank you for sharing your expertise as a surgeon and shedding light on Appendicitis. The information is so informative and engaging! 💡 I'm loving the visual aids too! 😊 You're absolutely right, it's essential to spread awareness about this condition.
I'd love to hear more from Steemians in the comments below. Have any of you experienced a similar situation or have knowledge to share on this topic? 🤔
Also, don't forget to check out @khursheedanwar's contest and join the conversation! 💬 And if you haven't already, please consider voting for our witness, xpilar.witness, by going to https://steemitwallet.com/~witnesses. Your support means the world to us! ❤️"
Thanks for the invite ma'am. I still have mine too.
This is really educating. Thank God for technology people don't have to does slowly from appendix.
But I'm curious about the causes of the inflammation and how to prevent it.
