The National Sleep Foundation, that organization recommends that adults should get 7-9 hours of sleep per night. This sufficient amount of sleep can be very healthy. It can promote your mental health, physical well-being, quality of life and safety. It heals and repairs your heart as well as blood vessels, decreases risks of chronic health conditions, strengthens immunity. Moreover, sleep contributes to the appropriate levels of hormones that make you hungry or not and thus plays a part in weight loss management.

It can impair your cognitive functions which are the way you learn, think, learner concentrate and solve problems thus makes it hard to hanger-on efficiently. This also affects the rest of mind, balance of hormones hence mood swings, depression, insomnia and anxiety. You can catch up on lost sleep, though this is not at all like sleeping in on weekends. This is called the “weekend catch-up sleep”. However, it should be noted that there is a difference between catching up on lost sleep and consistently receiving the recommended amount. It takes extra time for your body to recover when you catch up.

On the contrary, too much sleep or hypersomnia can also cause health problems. Sleeping more than the prescribed number of hours regularly makes one prone to obesity, headache, back pain and heart disease. Additionally, it can also cause severe diseases such as diabetes and depression.

According to my references here are some tips for getting better sleep:

  • Always stick to the sleep schedule plans: Go to bed and wake up at the same time each day, even if it’s a weekend.
  • Grab attention to while you eat and drink at night: Avoid big or heavy meals and breweries a couple of hours before getting into bed. Instead of heavy foods try to eat light foods at night time.
  • Create a restful environment: Make sure your room is cool, dark and quiet. Do not try to overuse light-emitting screens close to bedtime.
  • Limit daytime naps: Sleeping in the daytime for too long may cause disrupt night sleep.
  • Include physical activity in your daily routine: Regular physical activity or workouts contributes to improved sleep.
  • Manage or reduce worries: Attempt to address your problems or concerns before going to bed.

As we summarize, it is also the case that each person has different sleep requirements, and what most benefits you may not affect another individual as well. It is important to listen to your body and find the right routine that has you feeling rested again. Having sleeping difficulties frequently is probably a situation that would require you to seek medical advice. The failure to sleep properly and oversleep, both may result in health problems. So, it’s crucial to focus on good sleep habits and make sure that you are getting an adequate amount of rest recommended by your body.
