SEC-S13 / W5 | "How can alcohol cause damage to your health! 🍺"
INTRODUCTION
The abuse of alcohol by people have made a lot of people to delve into the path of alcoholism. Just like every other substance that can be consumed, alcohol is not to be consumed in excess. I have seen people first-hand who have given their life over to alcohol and they never had a good ending to their life. Alcohol abuse has caused people who could have been great men to live a violent and chaotic lifestyle.
Alcoholic drinks are drinks that contain ethanol. Some could have a higher percentage, while others a lower percentage. It is always advisable to have a lower intake of alcohol to avoid dependence on it. Some people drink alcohol to lessen anxiety, depression and social disorders. But this could equally lead to being drunk most times, making the person do things they wouldn't do in their normal state.

A person is said to be an alcoholic if the person has total dependence on alcohol even at the expense of their self control and good life.
A person who is an alcoholic will always see alcohol as the only way of escaping from problems.
An alcoholic will always have excuses and reasons they are drinking alcohol in large quantity.
Using alcohol to take away depression and anxiety is just a temporary fix which could have permanent consequences which would even lead to not only a reduction in self worth and morals but even diseases and death.
Alcoholics are seen to be always drunk, moving in a Brownian motion without direction. This is always the characteristics of most alcoholics...The way they speak, act and walk is always a significant way to know them.

When in secondary school, I wrote on the definition of drugs..I can still remember and it said; That a drug is any substance that alters the psychological and physical system of a human. Does alcohol fit this description?
Alcohol which is ethanol can change or alter how the body or the mind of a person works. Alcohol is know to be a depressant and qualifies as a drug. It changes the ability for a person to recognise people, it could cause vomiting when taken in excess, it makes the person dizzy and could cause fever. This is a whole lot of changes done by alcohol to the body and there are many more. So therefore since it meets the description of a drug, alcohol qualifies as a drug. And the abuse of alcohol is very detrimental to the health of the body.

Alcoholism is a disease with no cure but it could be controlled. When a person delves into alcoholism, it stops the right thinking pattern of that person.
And every step should be taken to stop or control it. Alcoholism if not stopped could lead to cancer, destruction of vital organs in the body, inability to recognise right from wrong and possibly death.
A lot of people die from accidents because they were drunk. I saw a case where 4 people died after coming back from a night party..only one came out alive with serious injuries. She said the guy who drove couldn't control the steering and he hit the vehicle on another static truck. So alcoholism should be controlled from an early age in the following ways:
Stay away from friends who would pressure you into drinking alcohol more often. I have seen instances where people who don't drink alcohol are pressure by those who do. It is a matter of time on how far you would indulge into it.
Don't keep Alcoholic drinks close to you
Write a goal on staying away from alcohol and keep to that goal. Keep it as a reminder.
Find other solutions to problems and depression..contact a therapist, the solution isn't in a bottle of alcohol.

Not all drinkers are alcoholics. There are people who drink alcohol excessively at some point but don't have the disease of alcoholism.
Alcoholism is a disease that needs to be stopped or controlled.
Like the famous George best who was a footballer for Manchester United said
I was born with a great gift, and sometimes with that comes a destructive streak. Drinking is the only opponent I have been unable to beat.
The end of his life was a painful one because of the decisions he made off the field

Hello @johnmitchel, I read and enjoyed your post till the end and I'd like to take on your last answer (to question 4).
From my point of view, excessive drinking is considered as abuse. It qualifies to call someone an alcoholic if that person abuses the consumption of a drug like alcohol. This is because no one is a superhuman, in as much as thes persons say they are in control despite excess consumption, a problem will arise. They could even be addicted in a way, and not even bring themselves to accepting.
Okay, i get your point of view..i was actually trying to point out that some people do drink but are not alcoholics.
