Contest: Do you know your health care professionals?

Going through this contest and participating in it makes me happy because I have always fallen in love with the health care profession since I was a child.

To be a health care professional takes alot of time and commitment. Due to the fact that health is wealth and ones life and well-being cannot be taken for granted, health care worker undergoes a lot of rigorous activities to become a professional. First you have to undergo a training in a well recognized and acceptable institution by the professional body you want to practice, be willing to follow all the ethical principles governing that specialty, sit and pass their professional body exam for them to be able to issue you the certificate and licence needed for practice and above all to be a health care worker you must be able to tolerate and treat your patient with respect.

The health care profession is very wide and consist of different departments we have the radiologist, nurses, doctors, medical laboratory scientist, dentist, pharmacist, physiotherapist. Alot of us might have heard their names or see them but are somehow confused on the job they do so I will try and explain few of them and I will start with -

1 . Doctors ÷ also call physician is someone that diagnose a disease condition base on the sign, symptoms and test results present, they also explained the kind of treatment one will undergo to get rid of the illness or manage it and also gives patients the necessary counsel needed at all time and making sure the patient right are not abuse and also work with fellow health care team for health promotion.

2 . Nurses ÷ serve as a voice and middlemen between patients, their relatives and other health care workers. They administer treatment plan and makes sure patient recovers within the fastest period as possible they also makes sure that patient understands and takes part in their treatment plan. Nurses also advocate for patients right and work with other health care professionals to improve the overall well-being of the patient.

3 . Medical laboratory scientist ÷ they are in charge of taking samples from patient and running some test on them. They make sure that the particular illness and organism affecting patients are identified.

4 . Pharmacist ÷ they interpreted the doctors prescriptions on drugs, dispense drugs, makes research on improving the health of the people through production of drug and vaccine they also studied the therapeutic effects to know how the drugs works on the body and which drug should not be taken together.

5 . Dentist ÷ they are health care professionals train and license to care for the teeth and oral cavity. They are in charge of diagnosing different conditions and ailments of the teeth and it gum and it treatment.

All this health care professionals works in hand with each other none can stand alone and all work to achieve one goal which is to improve the health of the patient and the society at large. Choosing among the various health care professionals is confusing based on my knowledge and interaction with them the best part is that everyone of them has their uniqueness that makes them special.

Since I was a child I have always have a soft spot for nurses, I am a nurse I love my profession and if am to choose again I will still want to be a nurse because I love the ideas that we provide direct care and comfort to our patients we are always ready to give them a listening hear even when we have heard they complain and stories alot of times.
