Greetings to all participants in this contest, I am happy to make my contribute to this great contest. Enjoying the liberty to make a choice between writing about Elephants, Rhinoceros, Buffalo, Lion and Leopards.

Let me tell you what I know and have researched about the Rhinoceros. In this post I will identify a Rhinoceros, make a description of a Rhinoceros, and any details I can add to it make your reading interesting and captivating.

What is a Rhinoceros

The Rhinoceros also known as a rhino for short is an animal you will see in Africa and some parts of Asia.
To see a rhinoceros in it's natural habitat, you will have to travel all the way to South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe or Kenya all African countries, there they roam grassland and the open savannah.

How will you know when you see one

A kind of warrior cow with gray colour armor thick skin and pillers for legs, outstanding ears and most importantly, it's horn is almost like that of a unicorn, on top of it's nose.
Like a samurai, some rhinoceros have two horns for swords, a larger horn Infront and a smaller horn follows it closely behind. The Wikipedia page says it's name is from Ancient Greek ῥινόκερως meaning nose-horned.

Rhinos are herbivores animals, you are typically going to see them feed on plant, grass, their diet mainly consists of leaves, branches, roots, shrubs, tree bark and fruit. Rhinoceros can eat and digest tough-fibrous plants.

The Wikipedia page on rhinoceros also adds that the rhinos belong to a group called megafauna which is made up of large animals weighing over 46 kilograms that is over a tonne.

Interesting facts
A rhinoceros will charge in and stamp off your camp fire. It is believed to be a way it protects it's habitat against bush fire. They are the fire fighter in the animal world.

We have about five diffrent species of rhino, all having different size, different horn shape, and habitat. They are known for having poor vision with an excellent sense of smell.

Threat to rhino
Looking though with it's armor makes it no match for human hunters and poachers who are the only predators that successfully attack the rhinoceros for their horns and sometimes for their skin.
The rhinoceros horns are used for traditional medicine, believed to work as an antidote if poisoned. It is also beloved to purify water and is used for making the handle of daggers.
The misconception that powdered rhinoceros horn have aphrodisiac functions and can cure cancer, this has fueled the poaching business.

"In March 2013, some researchers suggested that the only way to reduce poaching would be to establish a regulated trade based on humane and renewable harvesting from live rhinos." ^Wikipedia
The world wildlife fund thinks this move will step up demand for rhinoceros horns.

Ways to prevent poaching
Money endangered animals including rhinoceros are having serious problems with poaching, some animals are at risk of being wiped out. To protect this animals, penalties for poachers are enforced and made high.
Marking the rhino habitats as protected areas is another good strategy. Devaluing the price of rhino based products have also been helpful.
Education has also proved helpful in reducing the activities of rhinoceros based products.

Conclusion
A rhinoceros can look powerfully armored but are still vulnerable. They are too powerful and large to have as pets but needs our care and protection.
