Winds of change

in Steem For Ladies15 days ago

“There are winds of destiny that blow when we least expect them. Sometimes they gust with the fury of a hurricane, sometimes they barely fan one’s cheek. But the winds cannot be denied, bringing as they often do a future that is impossible to ignore.”

While watching the Olympic Games on Saturday, we received a warning on our community WhatsApp group for extreme heat and nasty, in fact, gale-force winds the next day.

Later, we watched the weather report on one of the news channels, and there it was: another warning.

Now let me remind you that it is currently winter in South Africa. As we stay on the eastern side of Africa, the warm Indian Ocean is our home, resulting in the fact that the temperatures are much warmer than the rest of South Africa. The average winter temperature is +/- 22°.

All of a sudden we are receiving warmings of a temperature of 37° degrees for Sunday. This means that there will be an increase of 15 degrees in temperature. Is it possible? We could only wait and see.

I woke up Sunday morning to an overcast day with no wind blowing. We could not decide if we should go to church or not. Church for us is in the city of Durban, with the result that we have to travel the open road for nearly 40 kilometers. We could not forget the tornadoes we had a little bit more than two months ago. With the weather bureau project gale force winds, we were hesitant to leave the safety of our home. In the end, we decided to stay.

The same woman who warned us about what was expected was now posting, “Where’s this scorcher of a day they were bragging about?”

At about 10, my husband called me to feel the air outside. It was hot!

When we went back into the house, it felt like we had all the air conditioners on. Then the wind started to blow. I went outside to take a video for the family. The wind was blowing so strong that my phone nearly got ripped out of my hands.

Glub! Gone was the electricity.

I cannot describe the intense heat, the strong wind, or the anxiety that crossed our minds. Little did we know that the worst was yet to come: fire.

Reports of fires started to come in. First, it was on some of the farms, but then there were also reports of fires in town. One of the estates where friends are living was in the line of one of the fires. Hubby left to go and see if he could help them. Just before he left, he noticed that one of the roof plates of one of our neighbors was flapping in the wind.

I now had three things to be worried about: my husband rushing off to help friends, the wind and our home, and the fear that our neighbor's roof might blow off.

All of a sudden, there was no wind. My joy was short-lived as the wind started to blow again, this time from another direction, and all of a sudden it was cold. The temperature dropped right back to 23°.

It was only at 9 that the wind stopped blowing and everything calmed down. Hubby was safe back at home; the neighbor's roof was still intact, and we had no damages except for the kitchen door that we could not get open and for the mess in the yard, and yes, the power was also restored.

We were left with one question: What happened today?

Did these conditions and winds bring us a warning for the future, the changes of global warning?

One thing I do know is that they cannot be ignored.

There will be more extremes, with ever higher amplitudes. It's no different here, just at a lower level.

You have to be prepared for this. Change the building biology, fall back on old-fashioned and therefore electricity-independent air conditioning... Do it! Don't wait for your state or a well-meaning advisor to do it for you. Adapt...

Oh yes! I agree 100% with you.
We are slowly but surely going off the grid.

It is sad that all of a sudden it is now a reality, and things are only going to get worse.

What are we doing to Mother Earth!

Your account of unpredictable weather changes and their impact is both vivid and gripping. Sudden temperature rises and strong winds illustrate how nature can challenge our sense of normalcy and security. It's impressive how you've captured the irony of the actual situation of weather warnings with heat and strong winds creating such a dramatic turn.

It's really good to read your post and you have presented a lot of good things here about wind, if the wind gets too strong it becomes a hurricane it's true and it causes a lot of damage to people and various things which is not desirable for us also we always try To protect yourself or your family from various types of natural damage or natural calamities, you said here to protect your family. It is very good to protect your family. It is everyone's responsibility and duty and everyone thinks about everyone's family first. It is very good to know a lot about you. Good luck to you

You know, you always think it happens to other people and never to yourselves. But that is no longer the case.
Reality is now knocking on all our doorsteps.
We can only do what we can to protect our loved ones and our possessions.
Thank you for the visit and the engagement.

It actually looks like the change happening in the atmosphere might be due to the atmosphere of the environment where the building is actually located to who knows or what do you think

It happened for a stretch of nearly 70 kilometers, which was just unbelievalble.
Warm winds from the ocean and then cold winds from the inland later in the day.
Best of all, it was overcast the whole day, yet we measured 37 degrees here by us.
What an experience!

I think I am the only one that recently have noticed that there have been a change in the climatic change most especially this week

Oh wow, so you also experienced something weird.
I cannot help but wonder what will happen next. First we had tornadoes, which we are not known for, and now this.
I suppose only time will tell.
Thanks for the visit and the engagement!☕

When you say wind” I was expecting a cool air not hot air that’s hot enough to cause fire!!

I also expected leaving close to an ocean would be much more cooler but to my surprise, it’s warm. That is really strange.

ThankGod, u followed your heart by staying home and not going to church, who knows what the wind would have blown across your path while driving down… I’m glad everyone is fine!!

What about logi” the dog.. hope the wind didn’t carry it away??😊😊

Loki was safely tucked inside. He wanted to help every time hubby had to go and scope the leaves out of the swimming pool, but he only got as far as sticking his nose out of the door. (•ิ‿•ิ)

We live next to the Indian Ocean, which is the warmest ocean on earth, hence the warmer weather.
The cold wind came from inland.

Thank you!

Yip! What an ordeal! And to think that we can go from 22 degrees to 37 degrees and back to 22 degrees in one day is truly amazing.

We can only ask ourselves what is next if we don't look after this wonderful place that we call Earth.

Wake up people!

¡Saludos y feliz día!

Hmm the scene of this world is really changing. But what could have cause the fire though 🤔?
Permit me to say ma'am your husband is really brave going to render help during danger. I'm glad you and your family are safe. Hopefully such doesn't happen again or atleast not without a notice.

Okay, the fires were caused by the extreme heat, and then the wind spread the fires.
We were indeed lucky, but I still cannot believe that there can be conditions like this in one day.

Thanks for the visit! ☕
