Hi everyone, my name is @newtonb how are we all doing hope we are all doing great by God's grace. Okay I want to partake in this contest organized by @patjewell the contest is entitled Choices! what will it be?. A series of keywords were enumerated for contestants to choose from. These keywords are, earrings, good, snake ,egg and telephone. For this contest I will be writing in TELEPHONE. That is my choice.

Introduction.

All through out history ,man has always look for ways to communicate. There have always been a desire to reach out to people that are not close to us and get a response.

Before the idea of telephones was birthed, there has been existing various means of communication or exchange of information, such as post mails, the post offices, letters and similar means. But due to the delay of delivery people started thinking of how one could communicate with others in a few minutes.

This quest for a way forward went on and on untill 1876 when a man called Alexander Graham Bell came up with a brilliant idea that spark the revolution of electrical telephone.

He was able to invent a device that Could transfer a human voice to another device. This device and idea was later developed and modified by many other researchers and that is how more modern and sophisticated telephones came to the lamb light.

Definition of a Telephone.

"A telephone can be defined as a telecommunications device that permits two or more users to communicate when they are far apart to be easily heard directly. A telephone converts sound waves, usually and most efficiently the human voice, into electronic signals that will be transmitted through cables and other communication channel's to another telephone which replicates the sound to the receiving user." As per Wikipedia

It's important to know that the essential elements of a telephone are a microphone ( a transmitter to speak into) and earphones (receiver) which reproduces the voice at a distant end.

Types of telephones.

1) Landline Telephones

This is a type of telephone whereby the phone system is connected by insulated wires that connect to the entire network. Originally, this method was in the form over overland ( on the surface of the earth) cables but as time went by ,the cables have been mostly placed underground.

Landline phones has a microphone and speakers like all other telephone devices. This speaker allows the user to hear the person on the other end, while the microphone simply permits the sending of voice mails.

2) Mobile Phones

Mobile Phones (usually also referred to as Cell Phones) are phones that do not require a physically connected wireline to communicate. Mobile phones work by sending radio waves.

The first device that was made that really resembled a mobile phone was around 1979 In Japan. This technology greatly expanded during the 1980’s and beyond. Their popularity really took off in the mid 1990’s and from early 2000’s they had a major impact in the telephones market.

3) VoIP Phones

"VoIP phones are most likely to be the next major step in mainstream of phone technology."Source

VoIP means voice communication over the internet. The signal is conveyed over a broadband connection, and is much more like email but with voices.

The quality of the VoIP all depends on the internet connection , which is the reason why the quality varies most times. The most common form of VoIP is to use a computer with a microphone and speakers and internet connection.

Advantages of Telephone

  • Immediate communication: With a telephone, you can connect with someone instantly anywhere in the world, This can be especially useful for important or urgent matters.

  • Convenience: "A telephone allow someone to communicate without the need for face to face interaction, which can be time-consuming or logistically difficult because of distance." Source

  • Increased productivity: The telephone
    can be used to enable people to conduct business, appointments, and also accomplish other tasks quickly and efficiently. It's can be used for multitasking.

  • Cost-effective: Using a telephone for communication is often cheaper than sending a letter mail or traveling to visit someone in person.

  • Connecting people: The telephone allows loved ones to stay in touch , even when they are far away. It also helps us to build and maintain relationships, plays a role of fostering a sense of community and connection.

The telephone, I cannot believe from where it all started until today. If I had to tell my grandpa years ago that the street cleaner, the bus driver, the shop assistant, everybody will have phone he would not have believed me.
