Have you prepared jams? Tell us about your experience.

I have not prepared jam before. Today was my first time making jam at home and I enjoyed the experience. It was a great experience as I simply followed the procedure provided by the teacher hence it was a great experience as I arrived to the desired result.

Submit a jam recipe. You can make the recipe presented in this course or the recipe of your choice (details utensils, ingredients and step by step).

I prepared a tropical fruit jam recipe using banana and the utensils and ingredients I used was:

6 small fingers of banana
250 grams of sugar
1 cup of water
1 tablespoon of vanilla
Pot and spatula

Procedure
I washed the bananas and I peeled off the banana peels and cut the bananas into pieces.

I placed the cut pieces into a pot and added the cup of water to it.

I set it on fire and allowed to boil for about ten minutes.

I transfer it to the blender and blended until smooth. Banana has no seeds hence I didn’t need to sieve it.

I transferred the entire contents into the pot and added sugar and vanilla flavour. I cooked it with medium heat while stirring continuously to avoid sticking and burning.

I stirred for about 30 minutes until I could see the bottom of my pot when I pass my spatula. This showed that my jam is ready.

Did you have any difficulty making your jam?

I didn’t encounter any difficulties while making my jam. I followed the step by step process provided by the teacher and got a good end result.

Do you have any special tips for making jam? Share it.

Some special tips I used in making my jam was;

  • I ensured to used good and ripe bananas as bad fruit would spoil the jam.
  • I cooked over low heat ensuring that I stirred continuously to avoid burning or sticking
  • I passed the spatula and seeing the bottom of my pot to ensure my jam was ready
  • Sterilized the packs for the jam in hot water
  • Storing in a cool place would ensure the jam lasts
  • Avoid over cooking so as not to be too sticky or thick
  • Ensure to use the ingredients in the right proportions to avoid too much sugar especially for very sweet fruits.
  • Experimenting with different Flavours can add an extra experience to jam making.
If you had to choose a food to accompany your jam, what would it be? Present your choice showing how you would enjoy both ingredients together.

I ate my delicious jam with bread. I sliced the bread and applied the ham in between the bread. It was very delicious. I also shared some with my friend and she loved it.

Thanks for another exciting class. Am glad I took part in this. I ask my friends @ngozi996, @jovita30 and @wringo to join this experience.

Me parece súper interesante tu mermelada, no había considerado nunca hacerla de banana 🍌 puede ser una excelente opción ya que es un fruta muy sabrosa, dulce y sobre todo económica en nuestro país.
