Music Legends is a new collection from The Royal Mint. It pays tribute to the bands and artists whose attitude, sound and looks came to define each passing decade. The first coin in the series features one of the most iconic rock bands of all time.

The coin design itself has the iconic instruments played by the four band members: Brian May’s Red Special guitar, John Deacon’s Fender Precision bass, Roger Taylor’s Ludwig™ bass drum and Freddie Mercury’s Bechstein™ grand piano with the opening notes of Bohemian Rhapsody pressed down.

Alongside a gold Proof, silver Proof and standard Brilliant Uncirculated edition, the BU coin is also available in three different slipcase covers exclusive to The Royal Mint– a fitting tribute to the career of one of Britain’s best-loved bands.
I'm torn between the over priced 1oz PROOF version (mintage 7500) or the incredibly over priced 1/2oz PROOF (mintage 10000).
I think these will do very well on the collectors market once the others in the series have been released. The Royal Mint did advertise this series being released, but not that extensively, so the uptake has been slow (so far).
The 1oz PROOFS have already sold out online, but I'll be calling in to the mint itself this morning to pick up my ALPHABET 10p's so ill see if they have any left on the shelf.
So to all the music lovers out there, the RM has found another way to rip that hard earned fiat out of our hands. I'm guessing the ROLLING STONES, DAVID BOWE and the likes will follow.... So watch this space and be smart, don't waste your money on these coins now! Wait till they sell out and buy them for double the price from me.

Mine too. That's the 1oz, £90 version. Picked mine up from the mint this morning. Let's hope the series become as popular as I hope.

Does the Royal Mint vary the price according to varying gold/silver prices or is the price so inflated above the metal value that they are not bothered?
Silver is £13.50 an oz (approx), give or take for fluctuations.
The 1oz coin is £90, so a £70+ mark up. The 1/2oz coin is £60 and is really bad value for money.

Queen seems like an odd first choice band. 🤔
But maybe their choices have more to do with how easy it is to get a licensing agreement with the bands to use their brand on the coins. 🧐
My guess would be that they are jumping on the back of the success of "bohemian rhapsody" movie that came out last year.
Hehehe... that last paragraph... what a true assessment of what other mints are doing. I think their mission statements have changed to include that one: to rip that hard-earned fiat out of the hands of coin collectors. It makes me laugh at times.
