New Steem Games - Part 1: Holybread

in SteemLeo4 years ago (edited)

Gaming is hot on Steem. Earlier this week, 2 brand new games were released, and they're taking the blockchain by storm. Holybread and SteemCity are the new kids this time. Join the games, have fun, and earn crypto while you're at it.

Steem Games

New games on Steem are popping up like mushrooms in a forest.
Not a real surprise. After all, the Steem blockchain provides a perfect environment for games. Lightning fast transactions that are free as long as you have a a little bit of Steem Power in your account... No need to waste time waiting for a transaction to go through, and - maybe even more important - no expensive gas fees to pay.

These powerful characteristics make the Steem blockchain attractive for both game developers and players.

The Flagship

You've probably heard of Splinterlands - the former Steemmonsters - which is like the flagship of Steem games.

Splinterlands

It's a collectible trading card game that offers many opportunities for both gamers and investors.

This game is all about building a collection of cards that can be used to battle against opponents in the arena.
Cards can be obtained through purchases of booster packs from the site, or can be bought on the P2P marketplace.

Players earn extra cards and DEC (the in-game currency) through battling.

Extra cards can be used to expand the player's collection, but they can also be sold to other players, or even burned in exchange for DEC.
Earned DEC can easily be converted to Steem, and then exchanged for any other crypto or even cashed out in fiat.

No need to explain this game provides some great income opportunities for players.

But there's more...

You don't have to actually play the game to profit from it.

Plenty of investors rent out their cards to other players using the rental market and get paid out passive income daily.

And then there's the group of people who are 'playing' the market: they buy cards cheap, and sell them for a higher price.

As you can see, Splinterlands offers not only a lot of fun, but also multiple ways to earn money.

Once you've obtained the initial $10 starter pack, which unlocks all features, you can start playing/making money instantly.

But enough about the old. Bring in the new!!

Holybread

Holybread is a brand new game that was launched only a couple of days ago. It has become pretty popular really fast.

The goal of this game is to level up your hero(es) and make it as strong as possible, so you can beat others in 1 on 1 fights. Every fight you win brings you closer to the top of the leader board and eternal fame.

To level up your hero, you need to complete simple quests. Once completed, you gain experience points (to level up) and gold. This gold can be used to purchase special attributes that increase your hero's stats and make it more powerful.

How To Make Money

There are multiple ways to earn money with the Holybread game.

  • During the game, you are awarded with Breadcrumbs. This is the in-game currency. The higher you rank on the leader board, the more breadcrumbs you will receive. Breadcrumbs can be sold on Steem-Engine (the Steem exchange) and cashed out. A weekly buyback from the game devs will speed up the process of selling.
  • Some quests will award you with extra attributes, just like the ones you can buy with your earned gold. You can use these attributes to level up your hero, but you can also sell them on the P2P marketplace in exchange for Steem.
  • The affiliate program pays out 5% commission whenever one of your referrals purchases 'bread' in order to speed up his progress in the game.

Maybe the best part of the game is that all of the above is possible with a free-to-play account. Earning without having to invest... isn't that every gamer's dream.

Next to the f2p version, the game offers a premium package for $9.99. Of course, this premium package will give you some advantages when leveling up your hero(es) and also extends your income opportunities, but even if you don't take that upgrade there are still plenty of ways to earn money from the Holybread game.

My Experience

When I first started out, it didn't take me long to get completely lost in the game. Some info can be found in the FAQ, but that wasn't enough for me to find my way. Fortunately, I came across this comprehensive tutorial by @auminda, which gave me a basic understanding of the game.

It's all not that hard, once you get the hang of it. The 'gameplay' may seem pretty basic, but finding the best way to upgrade your hero is pretty challenging.

I really like that Holybread doesn't require you to spend all your time on the game. After starting a quest, you can completely forget about the game for 10 or 15 minutes (or longer). You claim your prizes once you have a minute to spare. This makes this a perfect game to play while you're doing other stuff.

Figuring out the right prices for items you're selling is still a bit tricky, but in the two days since I signed up, I already sold 2 items. Net profit: 4 Steem. Okay, it's not a fortune (yet), but I've only been at it for 2 days, and I haven't invested a single cent. I haven't listed my breadcrumbs on the exchange yet. I will do so after I finish this post, to test the buyback opportunity.

It's still early, but I think the game developers have come up with a potential success story. And more people feel the same way, because at the moment of writing (4 days after the launch), there are already 1300 registered accounts.

Apparently, the developers have more in store for us. I can't wait to see where this is heading.

To Be Continued...

As you've probably noticed, this post has gotten a little out of hand. It's already a lot longer than I intended, and I haven't even told you about the SteemCity game yet.

So, here's an idea: let's take a break, and we'll meet again tomorrow for the second part of this post. I'll tell you all about SteemCity, a brand new game that utilizes NFT's. It's not only fun, it's also a good way to get comfortable with buying, selling and trading NFT's (Non Fungible Tokens).

But more on that tomorrow.

(Can't wait? Go visit the SteemCity Discord server to find out more.)

Buying virtual bread to speed up a game. The things people come up with! 🤣

Wait What!?! I haven't even seen one promotion for this SteemCity you speak of? Wtf... Anyhow, I want to play! Can you send me an invite link?

Oh, I have been playing holy bread and it is pretty awesome! I am excited to see how tomorrows payout works out.. Great article :0)

There are only a couple of posts about in around.

Here's the Discord link: https://discord.gg/U8ZAXBb
You can get all info in the server (although it seems to be a little quiet tonight).

This post by @ironshield gives you a little more info

And the link below will take you to the unofficial launch post. It's a week old, so the first mmovers advantage of 2steem/card is over. It's no 4 steem/card, but the rest is still accurate

Dang it! I came for the steem city!! ;)

Been playing holy brwad for a day or so and agree the learning curve is weird.

I do think on of the best use cases for steem is gaming!!

fror more info about SteemCity, see the links in my reply to the above comment

@simplymike thank you so much for your post! And also for the promo vide - that's awesome. Please consider using the tag holybread aswell when posting about the game so we can find it easily and upvote :)

Thanks. I don't know how I could miss the tag. Fixed :0)

That was a close game in the YT vid! Could have done with some real music like DnB in that video though 😜

Good knowledge on the games here sounds like games on the Steem chain will be a big area of development going forward!

Searching for music to add in YT is such a boring job. I got tired of it pretty quickly, so I picked one that wasn't a downer, and of the correct length. I would have loved to add some psytrance to it, lol.

Gaming on Steem can be huge. If you think of how popular games on ETH are, and there you have to pay to even play. Gas fees are expensive. none of that on Steem

Nope, a great advantage on steem!

Maybe you can look in to developing Steem Battleships 😁

😁
If only I could code...

Yea that could be a stumbling block... Not even with your 22 years experience? 😁

No... OMG, I have wasted my years of experience

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
