Sales Promotion is a short term tactics to promote sales which of course includes incentives on a little period, black friday, Extra additional utility for the same price in purchasing a goods and services for only a short period and a whole lot of others. Nigeria is a country Where private organisation or cooperation mostly boosts their businesses with sales Promotion and the reason for this is because. Advertising is mostly to sell better and this is basically to achieve a long term profit but in marketing and businesses it's been discovered that a customer is a stakeholder in a business but not a shareholders so if a customer's purchasing behavior decides to change, then it affects the functionalities or halts the smooth running of a business and this is mostly the reason why sometimes sales Promotion is often cultivated as a period where the customers gets to have more for spending less and the companies have less for reducing or giving out purchasing incentive.

Sales Promotion often spark off rivalry and competition especially amongst organizations that brings similar services to the general public and in my opinion this is often good for the consumers. Some months ago a network provider called Airtel and 9mobile decided to do a little sales Promotion for their new data bundle package which will only last for three months. Actually 9mobile customers are often complaining that the cost of buying data is too high so as a result of this they usually switch to Airtel to buy data and this wasn't so good for 9mobile, without mincing words I was a 9mobile customer myself because they have quality servicing More than Airtel who's rather inconsistent with their servicing, but people including me rather ignored the inconsistent servicing simply because I wanted to spend less and have More. So 9mobile could not afford to reduce the prices of their data bundle maybe this is because of the qualitative and consistent services that they offer so in order to make up for this, they spend more on advertising and actually do more sales promotion in order to still remain relevant and make profit.

But Airtel often rivals 9mobile by doing more weekly sales promotion and it is always as if Airtel steals 9mobile's public relations analysis and since Airtel came to the market (9mobile has been here for a shorter period because Airtel has gone through series of rebranding which makes them lose customers) the customers of 9mobile has drastically reduced and even if they have been consistent with their servicing their sales Promotion tactics has always been matched by Airtel. So sales Promotion often works well in an industry where you have companies bringing the same goods and services because if a company's sales Promotion policies isn't really juicy or attractive enough their advertising which is more long-term might not even be functional because customers are always on the lookout for the best sales Promotion package and that's why during black friday people tend to buy more because they be getting things like 20% off or less or more on a particular product.

Sales Promotion has always been known to do better than personal selling because personal selling isn't so effective. A consumer wants to see first hand what a company can offer and personal selling doesn't offer this. Infact some organisations have even abandoned advertising because of the cost of airtime on Influencers, media houses and the internet and things like personal selling bus miniature advertising that actually cost less because the representatives of a company or organisation are often the ones involved in personal selling. So whether a company likes it or not they have to indulge in personal selling because even after that short period of incentizing to boost sales some customers might find it difficult to leave so they'll be stuck and well waiting for the next sales Promotion package to come their way again. In conclusion companies that enjoys Monopoly hardly get involved in sales promotion and this is to the detriment of a consumer. Public service (government owned firms) do not indulge in sales promotion because they only provide specific servicing which bus only unique to them (electricity) and that is why in the future I feel that we should have competitiveness to government owned firms so that customers can keep or start enjoying sales promotion howbeit it wouldn't come without it's own disadvantages
