#2020Vision Diary: Day 19

in SteemLeo4 years ago (edited)

Don't break the chain... Don't break the chain...

When I signed myself up for the #2020Vision challenge to do a daily dairy, I promised myself not to burn out. So I decided to do the Seinfeld Strategy that has been popularized by James Clear. Now, the trick is, that once you break the chain, you pick up as quick as possible. For me that means, if I miss one daily diary, I have to pick up the next day.

Even if it means this diary isn't as good as the previous one. Even if I haven't taken any pictures of the day before. No inspiration whatsoever. Now, the worst part is. I missed a day not because of any of those reasons, but because I was tired. Because I overwork myself. I overbooked my calendar with no rests in between. Reaching a point where I'm to tired to really enjoy my quality time at home. Reaching a point I fall asleep next to my kids at home at 8 PM and wake up the next day without posting an update.

Next week I'm heading out and have 3 trips planned in the next 2 months. That gives me 2 months to figure my goals for 2020 out. My next steps towards 2025, because that is where I'm planning towards at the moment.

Back to the things I'm proud of:

  1. I did my first in-house company training of 2020. It was really good session I do see 2020 being the year that Surinamese companies will diversify their Social Media marketing instead of solely focusing on Facebook just because it is the biggest platform
  2. I had a couple of great client meetings, which makes me even more excited about what 2020 will bring. It also means I have to write a couple of proposals this coming week (or at least prepare them)
  3. A couple of personal lunch meetings, catching up. One of which was a complete surprise, a friend that is deciding to leave us for a year to study abroad
  4. Also, after 2 weeks of struggling I finally found somewhat of a structure to categorize everything I'm doing into 9 different main categories my life currently fits in. Each will have 1 main goal each month, and a supporting goal (which I can only reach with the help of others). For each category, I'll write down where I want to be by the end of the year.

I little side story into me planning my year and upcoming years, as well as structuring my life. In 2006, my mom was a little worried I would drop out of University. She flew over from Suriname to the Netherlands where I was studying to make sure I finished all my exams from my first year. Aside from me finishing off my first year, she also bought a couple of books, including The Mind Map book by Tony Buzan. While I'm not fully committed to Buzan's methods, it has helped structuring my brain ever since.

A mind map from 2008 when I started using mindmapping to structure my life.

My mind maps have grown more complex over the years, sometimes overlapping because one subcategory falls under multiple main categories (which technically should not be the case), as I said yes to nearly everything between 2010 and 2015. Until this day, saying no remains very difficult, but being fully booked until April 2020 will give me a major test on how to deal with things that I come across that I want to do, but don't really have the time for.

As the rat race has officially started (Happy Chinese New Year, yes, my Chinese zodiac is a Rat), I'm looking forward to the challenge of continuing my #2020Vision journey. Let's #pushon!

The #2020Vision Diary is a challenge as part of @pixiepost’s #2020Vision project.

My personal twist:
For me the main focus will be on posting 4 things I did every day instead of 4 creative pushups.

So funny but I completely relate to overworking oneself. I do it all the time. I have some medical issues that I don't talk about a lot but I am a person who doesn't let that deter me. So I love jumping into different things, work offline at the hotel & so many other projects (including this one). Then, I wonder why I end up burned out or so exhausted after some time. lol. That is why the time management strategy is still a work in progress for me. It also allows me to see what I am doing with my time & show me if I truly have the time to say yes to more things. It can be a game changer once I figure out the strategy that works for me.

I am glad you have goals to achieve & so many aspirations. It makes life exciting. Just remember to take care of yourself as well. Without balance, things can get out of whack. Believe me, I have to tell myself this all the time lol.

Thanks, my friend. We continue to #pushon in this #2020Vision challenge & it is growing into something amazing!🙌♨️🧚‍♀️🦄🌱💜
