Greetings to you all my poeple. It is my delight to make my first entry in this wonderful contest titled A BETTER LIFE WITH STEEM: LEARN WITH STEEM. Here, i am going to show how to make homemade mixed cereal or what we locally call tom brown. This food is very healthy and can be enjoyed by both babies and adults. It nourishes the body. About the nutritional value of it, watch out for it in my subsequent posts. Please follow along as i show you how i make my own tom brown. I learned it from a friend around January this year but i did not practice it then, but during March before the lockdown, i gave it a trial and the outcome was superb. It was part of the food that sustained us during that period and my family enjoyed it a lot. Let's learn with steem below.

To begin, we need to determine the quantity of what we want to produce. I usually produce about 4kg of mixed cereal flour with the following quantities of the cereals
Cereal | Quantity |
---|---|
Soya beans | 4kg |
Guinea corn | 2kg |
Milet | 2kg |
Yellow corn | 2kg |
Rice | 1kg |
Plantain | 6fingers |
Groundnut | 1/2kg |
Crayfish | 1/2kg |
Dates | desired quantity |
The next thing is to select all the dirts from the cereals away. You will have to do separately and carefully.
Wash the cereals and sun dry with the exception of the soyabean and rice. Some people soak the soya beans overnight and wash off the skin before sundrying. But i just select it and keep. Then wait for other cereals to dry.
Peal the plantain and sun dry
When cereals are dried, roast/fry them even the soyabean and all other ingredients separately till light brown. Except the dates.
Remove the seeds from the dates
Then when they are ready, peel the groundnuts to remove the skin and then pack every item separately and take to the grinding machine. I use the commercial grinding machine because i don't have the machine at home. When i take it there, they will remove the skin from the soyabean before grinding them together.
Your soyabean flour is ready.
About how to prepare it, you prepare it like pap or pudding. Desolve your desired quantity in cold water, add a little hot water to it and then place it on the fire to thicken. Enjoy with milk! You may not add sugar because the date is acting as a sweetener.

Nice effort on this meal @ngoenyi. I have not done this kind of food preparation, but your guide here is not too difficult to follow. I will like to learn about the nutritional value of Tom brown. Looking forward to that in your next post.
wow, this a very nourishing meal for babies. This is a full combination in one. Chai protein, starch, glucose, and you have carbohydrates, calcium, iron, thiamin found in rice. This just too much in one. Bon travail @ngoenyi
Hahaha, my dear, sometimes here in this part of the world, it is usually difficult to eat a meal that contains all the nutrients that our body needs for each day. So having such combination helps us eat balanced diet even if we are not able to get another one. Thank you for stopping by
