Whenever you hear the word, Look before you leap it means to wise, calculate the cost very well. Be sure of it. For example, if you want to go into a relationship and you discussed it a good friend and he said, look before you leap. He is telling you to sure of that person before you start the relationship. Then if it is in a business, it means, check the stability of the company before you invest your money to avoid chai!!!!!!.
How this english proverb started.
This word is an English proverb and was first used or said by John Heywood in 1546, in the United States. It is a word to help you take precautions in what you want to do. It helps you to think positive and nagative side not something before you go into it. Now having known what look before you leap is, let's go into the main story.
True life story of Mr Essien Mich and Mr Udo Asuquo.
Mr Asuquo: Hi mr Micheal, I have a lucrative busines that i will to share with you. Infact you will love to invest in it.
Mr Micheal: What is the business all about? What is the name of the company? Like how much will I invest and what is the return on investment (ROI)?
Mr Asuquo: Let me make it simple for you to understand it Mr Mich. Do you know that building at my place? I won the contract of supplying sand to the contractors untill they finish the building. You know I don't have much cash to run it so I have decided to share the opportunity to others. This is how it works Mr Mich, i want you to understand it very well.
A trip of sand is NGN 13,000 and i am supplying it at NGN 18,000, my own is 16k while the person who signed the contract for me has 2k so now minus 13k from 16k how much is remaining, 3k right. You will take 2k and i will take 1k. What i need is to supply them sand always, i am okay with 1k.
Mr Mich: Mr Asuquo, are you sure this is real? Are you sure I will not loose my money? See let me tell you, instead of you to change tomorrow, take 2k, let me take 1k. They both came into agreement and Mr Mich gave him NGN 1,m with trust and he left and the following week he paid Mr Mich what they agreed on. Little did he know that, the building, the sand, the contractors and contract are all fake but a plan deal.
Mr Asuquo went as far as involving so many people into this and he and his group became millionaires. One day Mr Mich was listening to news and he heard that Mr Asuquo has been arrested and taking to lagos for selling none existence sand. Mr Mich was like are you serious, can this be true, have i lost my money, can this brother dupe me? All this and more questions came into his mind.
He tried to call his number but switched off. He went to his house, it has been frozen be EFCC. It was not long and he heard the rumors everywhere that so many people were duped and their stories were different on how they were dupped. Mr Mich lost his money.
Moral lesson on this story
Enquiry He failed to make necessary enquiry to be sure it is true. As he said I hope you know my place, he would have gone to his village without telling Mr Asuquo to find out it is true and how the work was going on before investing his money.
In a hurry: He was in a hurry to invest money because of the profit and forget to make necessary documentation or agreements so that if something happen, he will be able to recover his money. When EFCC called for those involved to come to their office, those with proof of payment received their money back but those who do not have like Mr Mich lost their money.
RegretHe regreted trusting his friend Mr Asuquo. He did not count the nagative side of the investment. He only focused on how much he will gain so in this case, he did not look before he leap. Had it been he made all the necessary research about the sand busines, he wouldn't have loose his money.
Advice: Before you invest money in a business, check positive and nagative side of the business. Don't be carried away because of what they told you, you will get because all that glitters are not Gold
where is Mr Asuquo today?
It is too painful to tell you that since 3 years now, he has been in the prison. Since he was taken to lagos, no body have said i saw him. To Mr Asuquo too, he did not look before he lept. Had it been he sat down and calculated what it will cost him in case his plan fail but he only calculated the gain and today it has landed him into trouble.
When you are going through a tough time, it's important to always think the positive and the negative side of things. Some people might say that you should only think the positive side and avoid thinking about what you cannot control

It is something he and his family will not forget in a hurry. The painful part of is that the one who claimed what he was not is no way to be found since he.was taking to lagos.
