A better life with steem: Learn with steem- How to make homemade liquid soap

A lot of people ask: Becky what skill are you learning? Do you have any hand work? Etc. I smile because indeed I do.

It's not about knowing how to do everything but the little you know, develop on it and do it well.

Over the lockdown I originally didn't know how to make liquid soap. I usually watch my aunt from afar as she mixed and turned all the chemicals in a big bowl.

I got a chance to learn and I'm glad to share my knowledge with the steemit community.

Liquid soap requires a lot of chemicals and one needs to be very careful when making one.

So a safety measure is to Wear Hand Gloves

Also I'm going to be using pictures to illustrate some of the chemicals.

A reminder: Tell the person giving you the chemicals to number and label them

Reason is because most of them are whitish in colour and it can be easily misplaced for another.

To get 10 litres quantity of liquid soap, it's advisable to buy chemicals for five litres to avoid the texture to be too thick.

Chemicals to use (10 liters of liquid soap)

Nitrosol (6ltrs)

Nitrosol is the thickener in the making of liquid soap.

STPP (1Ltr)

This assists the SLS in functioning properly as it's a cleansing agent in the production of liquid soap.

Soda ash

This agent helps neutralize the harsh nature of caustic soda to the skin.

SLS

This is the main foaming agent in a liquid soap

Texapon

It functions as both a foaming agent and booster.

Sulphonic Acid

This acid is usually misplaced with sulphuric acid that's highly dangerous.

Sulphonic acid is a foaming and cleansing agent designed to boost the performance of the SLS chemical.

Caustic soda

Caustic soda is used as a stain removing agent in the making of liquid soap.

Foaming Booster

Foaming Booster as the name suggests helps the soap foam very well.

Formalin

A preservative agent

Fragrance
It gives the liquid soap a nice smell

Color ½ ltrs

Adds color to the soap. The commonly used color is green.

Then finally, your 10 litres bowl of water

In the absence of hand gloves, avoid touching the chemicals with your bare hands.

The process.

Soak STPP, Soda ash and SLS in seperate bowls of water overnight. A cup of water is enough to dissolve each of the chemicals.

The next day;

Add the Nitrosol into a big bowl of water and stir in one direction for 15-20 minutes until it becomes thick.

Add STPP, Soda ash and SLS respectively and stir for another 10 minutes.

Stir in one direction immediately after adding any chemical.

Texapon should be mixed in a separate bowl before added to the bigger bowl of liquid soap.

Add sulphonic acid and stir for a while to allow it to dissolve.

Alternatively add Caustic soda, foaming booster and formalin. Stir in one direction at every interval.

Mix the color in a separate bowl of water and put into the mixture then add the fragrance and stir till it all mixes up perfectly.

Allow the mixture to dissolve before bottling it in containers.
