Although many have a specific gender they prefer to take that position, they cannot change the fact that God decides which gender to give.
Some people may have very strong feelings about what gender they identify with and may be offended by the question. The best thing to do is just respect their decision and accept them for who they are.
Yeah, sometimes cultures and tradition do influence people's choice and views on certain matters, we ought to respect their opinions.
