I guess we have different views regarding the new Dune film. I don't think it was a remake of David Lynch's film, but rather an entirely new attempt at turning the novel into screenplay, and a franchise. Villeneuve's vision is indeed matching the scope of the work at hand. There are also series from early 2000s produced by Syfy, I think; that can be also used as something to get the idea of the scope of work if one wants to see the bigger picture without reading through all the novels. Why I'm referring to the scope more than once here also becomes clear if you read about Alejandro Jodorowsky's failed attempts back in 1970s - Dune is indeed a difficult one to work with.
