Dune Movie Review..A Science Fiction That Is Not Directed At Everyone And A Good Movie!

Canadian director Denis Villeneuve's films are unique and their stories are not for everyone. The amount of science fiction and philosophical themes it carries is beyond the reach of any movie viewer or cinema lover. His films such as Enemy , Arrival and Blade Runner 2049, and this particular movie, Dune, will not find everyone talking about it, but only its fans who love it, as they are hard science fiction films!

His other aforementioned films were almost perfect and amazing, but what about this one, Dune? After more than once its release was postponed due to the closure of cinemas around the world, was it worth all that long we waited for? I do not think so!

Dune movie story
The story of the film takes place in the framework of adventure and science fiction about the son of a noble family who is entrusted with the protection of something very precious and very important in the entire galaxy.

The film is first based on a 1965 novel by American writer "Frank Herbert" and is considered so successful that some critics have called it the best science fiction novel ever written. It is also based on the original movie (also based on the previous novel) of the same name, Dune from 1984.

The story compared to the original movie, nothing new around!

With the release of such a huge film by a great director like Villeneuve, you must prepare for it, and the least that the viewer can do is watch the first version of 1984 to get a comprehensive idea and general context of events, but if you can read the original novel it will be better, but I I didn't read it and just watched the first movie.

Watching this Villeneuve version, I didn't feel like much effort was put into playing with the storylines. This movie is almost an exact copy of the first movie from 1984, the only difference was amazing modern visual effects, different actors and an epic thrilling soundtrack, other than that nothing new is waiting for you!

Some may say that the film tries to respect the original story of the novel as the old movie did, but this does not prevent the screenwriter and director from creating and unleashing his imagination to come up with the new. You can take inspiration from the general context of the story and the general idea, but when you take a pre-existing movie or story and add modern visual effects and new actors to it, it doesn't mean that you have given much.

And I think that whoever watched, at least, the old movie from 1984 and then watched this modern version will feel as if he is watching the movie again with slight changes in some aspects such as the actors and effects we mentioned, but will you live an interesting and enjoyable cinematic story for the first time? I do not think so.

The issue of reproducing old films with a modern touch has become very common and consumed in Hollywood, which hints that American films and Hollywood in general have become lacking in originality and new ideas. The actors' performance is great, except for...!

Most of the main actors in the movie gave amazing performances that came at the level of a huge movie like this Dune movie, such as Zendaya from the recent Spider-Man films, Josh Brolin as Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Rebecca Ferguson who became famous in the recent Mission Impossible films, Dave Bautista with the The role of Drax from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the owner of various films, Javier Bardem, the great actor Stellan Skarsgard, the hero of the successful Chernobyl series, the well-known Jason Momoa and Oscar Isaac...

But the main actor who was not convinced by his performance at all is the young actor Timothée Chalamet, who played the role of the son of a noble family, as his performance was cold and devoid of the expressions and feelings required by a character like his important character who is the promised savior who is waiting for everyone. His performance was not bad, but it was not convincing enough to attract the viewer to the film.

The rest of the cinematic aspects were amazing

We are talking here about the visual effects, which in recent years have become basically conditioned to be amazing, otherwise your film will appear to be a failure from the beginning. In this Dune movie, she was just as amazing and breathtaking as one might expect.

The soundtrack, composed by the great Hans Zimmer, was also at a level that cannot be understated. Vibrations and sound notes carry the events of the film to the required level so that the viewer remains focused and entertained with the events.

The movie is worth watching, and we can't say that it's a bad movie at all, but in my opinion, it did not meet the good expectations. For me, it did not add anything new and did not satisfy the desire that I develop when a huge cinematic work is about to be released, which can be considered as the most awaited film of the year, especially since its director is the great Denis Villeneuve, who also wrote the script for the film, with the participation of both writer John Spaihts and the famous Eric Roth .

I guess we have different views regarding the new Dune film. I don't think it was a remake of David Lynch's film, but rather an entirely new attempt at turning the novel into screenplay, and a franchise. Villeneuve's vision is indeed matching the scope of the work at hand. There are also series from early 2000s produced by Syfy, I think; that can be also used as something to get the idea of the scope of work if one wants to see the bigger picture without reading through all the novels. Why I'm referring to the scope more than once here also becomes clear if you read about Alejandro Jodorowsky's failed attempts back in 1970s - Dune is indeed a difficult one to work with.

I am not terribly familiar with the books these things are based on but had fond memories of the original.

That being said, i was hesitant to even watch this because of all the negative press it was getting. I thought it was a pretty good film and was made in such a way that the average viewer could jump in without knowing anything about the books etc. I think this was the intention.

While I wouldn't rank it up there with other epic sagas I don't think it was bad and certainly think it is worth watching.
