What do do you do with... butterflies?

in CCC5 years ago (edited)

Butterflies.

I do not have a special feeling or bond with them. I seldom see them and I am not extremely fond of them either. There's a Zoo in the Netherlands with a "Butterfly Garden". I will never go over there. Not only because it's a long drive but also because it a ticket is way too expensive and a Zoo is no fun plus butterflies flying straight into my face is no fun either.

source these butterflies are for sale on the Dutch site "Marktplaats.nl". I believe it is part of eBay now.

Some people collect butterflies.
I don't know what they do to make them still look alive after being dead for years but they manage to do so. After that, the butterflies are pinned with a needle or so to the background of some (homemade?) showcase. It turns out a butterfly is expensive the price you can see on this site named the musea shop.

Aparently, butterflies are attractive enough to decorate items with. This mirror (left) and box belong to my youngest. I asked it to find me some butterflies.

What I do with butterflies?

Nothing. You can not eat them and I do not see the need to kill them and save them in a showcase.
I don't think dead butterflies are something I would like to collect. Stuffing a butterfly is also no hobby of mine.

These and earrings belonged to my eldest. I don't think any of us is a real butterfly, or bug, lover. No one hunts for them or has a hobby photographing or collecting them. We will not kill them either unless they belong to the family of, cloth eating, moths.

I do not care if they eat my plants as a caterpillar and will not spray against it. Nature will take care of it, each plague, and sends the predators who love to eat them if needed. It just takes time. The more we interfere the harder it is to create a healthy environment. History proved most of our "great deeds" if it comes to giving nature a hand turned into disasters never counted with. We should learn that we do not know better and our acts, no matter how small, have a huge impact on life. Not only animal life but ours too.

This is my entry to the CCC contest What do you do with ...? .37 hosted by @gertu. Anyone can join.

@wakeupkitty I do not see why someone would want to kill something so beautiful as a butterfly and pin it on a board, it is senseless. I have a neighbor who has a butterfly house, I went in it but all but one butterfly was hidden, lol.

@myjob The butterflies hid as you came in 😅

People collect butterflies just like stamps or sugar bags and even make money with it. ❤️

@wakeupkitty hahaha they must have. I do not see the sense in killing something so beautiful. Sugar bags??? why would you want to keep them, maybe over there they are different than what we have.

I took over - as a child - a collection once. There were great ones the paper used was great too. At that time restaurants etc had their own print/logo on the bag. These days everything is the same. I feel sorry now I didn't keep them. 💕

@wakeupkitty our sugar has always been in plain paper bags with the company name, nothing special about it, but flour used to come in cloth bags with pretty prints on them I used to make clothes out of the bags.

With us everything is in paperbags..I guess thos cloth bags were made of cotton?
You are very smart and handy. 💕

@wakeupkitty yes the flour bags were cotton. They came in different colors and prints

@myjob so your children were the flour colorful kids 👍💕

Thank you for letting me know the hive number. I can not directly post into the community. Steemit frequently doesn't load with me...all those numbers will not make it easier for people to know what they mean.

I wish you a good Sunday. 💕

Wow, what a good amount of butterflies you have. Luckily you don't like hehehe. It is interesting a butterfly museum. I have never seen a museum of them. I also like to see the butterflies flying. I don't like seeing them dead or eating. Thank you for sharing your beautiful images of butterflies in beautiful ornaments.

I think in the musea they are dead too. I do not know if that would make me happy... watching dead, stuffed, pinned Animals to the wall. 🙁

Thank you for joining this contest. You are surrounded by butterflies. Greetings @team-ccc

I love watching butterflies, I think their vinbrant color and the color combination fascinates me. But just like you @wakeupkitty, I will not go into great lengths to visit a butterfly garden or museum of any kind. But if they visit my garden, then it's not a big deal. They are always welcome.
