Los venezolanos esperamos con ansias la época de los mangos. Aquí le dicen nombres como los quita ruidos o el quita hambre. Es la fruta de temporada más esperada.

Venezuelans look forward to the mango season. Here they say names like the noisy remover or the hunger remover. It is the most anticipated seasonal fruit.

El mango es el nombre de las frutas de varias especies de árboles del género Mangifera, es originario de Asia, de sabor dulce, con una concha lisa y fruto carnoso.

Mango is the name of the fruits of several species of trees of the Mangifera genus, it is native to Asia, with a sweet taste, with a smooth shell and fleshy fruit.

Nos parece increíble que el sabroso mango, tan característico de la vida venezolana, no haya existido desde siempre en nuestras tierras.

Hay documentos que indican que el mango llegó a tierras venezolanas en 1789 de la mano de Fermín de Sancinenea, quien desde muy joven se embarcó hacia América en un barco de la Compañía Guipuzcoana.

There are documents that indicate that the mango arrived in Venezuelan lands in 1789 by the hand of Fermín de Sancinenea, who from a very young age embarked for America on a ship of the Guipuzcoana Company.

El mango permite comerlo crudo o cocido, verde o maduro, en preparaciones dulces como la jalea, o saladas como el chutney y otros tipos de salsas.
Variedades conocidas como manga, de bocado, delicioso por su sabor, mango piña, de agua, perrito, paleta, olivo, camburito, tommy, pico de loro, entre otros como los injertados mango melocotón.

El dulce de jalea es uno de mis favoritos, se puede utilizar tanto el mango verde como el maduro. su preparación es muy sencilla.

10 unidades de Mango verde
750 gramos de Azúcar (3¾ tazas)
2 cucharaditas de Jugo de limón

Lava bien los mangos. Los vas a hervir por 20 minutos en abundante agua, no hace falta que le quites las conchas. Déjalos enfriar lo suficiente para que puedas manipularlo. Extrae toda la pulpa de la fruta. En una olla sin agua, mezclamos con el azúcar y jugo de limón. Cocinamos la jalea de mango a fuego alto y vamos removiendo con una cuchara de madera hasta que la mezcla espese.

Mango can be eaten raw or cooked, green or ripe, in sweet preparations like jelly, or salty like chutney and other types of sauces.
Varieties known as manga, snack, delicious for its flavor, pineapple mango, water, puppy, shoulder, olive, banana, tommy, parrot beak, among others such as grafted peach mango.

The jelly candy is one of my favorites, you can use both green and ripe mango. Its preparation is very simple.

10 units of Green Mango
750 grams of Sugar (3¾ cups)
2 teaspoons lemon juice

Wash the handles well. You are going to boil them for 20 minutes in plenty of water, you don't have to remove the shells. Let them cool enough for you to handle it. Extract all the pulp from the fruit. In a pot without water, mix with the sugar and lemon juice. Cook the mango jelly over high heat and stir with a wooden spoon until the mixture thickens.
