Business Activities: How to be A Successfully Entrepreneur While On Campus as a Student |by @swaylee
INTRODUCTION
Good day Entrepreneurs, Happy holidays/weekend. Today we will be looking at how one can be a student whilst steeming and being an entrepreneur. Going through the community, I figured out that about 45% of the posts I came across were written by student entrepreneurs. It's always good to have a good school/work balance so I am making this post so we can be successful in business on campus whilst maintaining a good student status.
Some people have struggling parents/guardians so inorder to reduce the burden on them, the students take on their own minor enterprise or small scale business so they can take most of the burden from their parents. Some other people feel they have to start now to have a biggest grasp on businesses in the future so they decide to joggle any business they can lay their hands on in school. While a reasonable percentage (which I'm a part of), just do it because the money they receive from their parents isn't enough to cover all their needs so they do it for luxury spending and for the fun of it.
Most times, People joggling this work in school are often in complicated department that require both practical and theoretical learning. Hence the student wouldn't have time to balance both. An example of such departments include pharmacy, dentistry, medicine, engineering, economics and other science related courses. You often see students struggling to balance both without proper planning and end up with high blood pressure or PTSD. So here I will be mentioning ways one can balance both to the best of their ability.
Plan Ahead/Time management
Students normally have something like a timetable for their classes during the week. It covers both fixed classes and normal classes. It is advisable to plan and manage your free time using this timetable, we can allocate some time to our sleep/relaxation, our funtime, our business and most of all our studies. There are several distractions to both our studies and our business that do not add any meaning to the both of them so when planning, we should endeavor to desist or keep those activities to a barest minimum.
Study ahead of the lecturer
It's inevitable to have a blooming business and not miss a class or two. It's always advisable to have friends who have got your back and also necessary for you to utilize the scheme of work and list of textbooks to surpass the lecturer so you would always be prepared for any surprise test or for times when you cannot make it to the class. Ofcourse this should be done during the free time so as to avoid clashing with another activity. If your case is serious, you can meet with the lecturer and tell him about your part time business to survive and he/she would definitely lend a helping hand either in class or elsewhere.
Watch your health
As we might have heard "Health is Wealth". It's important to watch your stress level and eat healthy. I've come across situations where one is so busy and stressed that they barely sleep or eat and this is really terrible. Sleep and relaxation is something that we as humans aren't to joke with. As business men and women, we should know our limits and know when to take breaks. In my country, there is a popular saying "It's someone that is alive that can make money". It's simply trying to say to put your health first because if you die, you won't be able to do anything anymore.
Socialize
Make good friends and many acquaintances, friends that would pull through for you when you are in need and acquaintances that would help spread your business name. On campus, students prefer to buy from someone their friends recommended for them. That being said, you treat your customers well and sell quality products. By doing this, not only would people refer customers but they would also boost your sales. You could turn from a part-timer to a fully fledged business person from this. That's how alot of business men get huge contracts, they were recommended by a big person due to their outstanding services.
Set goals and Aim Higher
A necessity in every business is aims and objectives. It must not always be monetary. You could include goals like maximizing customer satisfaction/happiness. If you were to set a goal like making double the profit you made in the previous year, it is more attainable if you aim higher than the set goal and plan for it. If you set a goal and aim directly for the goal, you would never reach your full potential. The passion to achieve those goals would show others your dedication and resolve and they would be moved by your actions. It's also necessary to know that not all things would go your way, there would definitely be suffering and obstacles in the near future so we've got to stay strong and push on.
As business people who hope to achieve great things we should not let anything keep us from achieving our goals. Some of the huge business moguls we have today started from high school/college and that made them what they are today. There might be many other points I didn't add but I leave this to the readers. In the comment section, you can air your thoughts and even add if you feel like there is any serious point I didn't identify.
