[CONTEST] The Place Where I Live #1 : Soave ( VERONA) - ITALY
Hello everyone
it is with great pleasure that I participate in this contest organised by @pennsif, I bring the country where I live, Soave a small town in the province of Verona, Italy.
As you can see, the small town is located halfway between the cities of Verona and Vicenza, so let's say I am convenient to both provinces.
Important data about Soave
Soave currently has more than 7000 inhabitants, and most of the population lives within the medieval walls.
Soave is of Roman origin; in fact, the famous Via Ostumia passed through this area, so they chose this place as a military outpost of control, since there was a hill.
It was thanks to the Scala family, the lords of Verona, that Soave developed its defences around 1300 and its castle was built, which we will see later.
A new mayor has now been elected, and just think that he is only 29 years old, so he is the youngest mayor in the province of Verona, think that in Italy something like this is very strange, usually politicians are old.
It is said, but this remains a legend, that the name 'Soave' was chosen by the famous Dante Alighieri, because he passed through these parts and enchanted by the landscape chose this name.
Most of the inhabitants of Soave live off the cultivation of grapes, because the famous Soave white wine, which is exported all over the world, is produced here; the rest work in the numerous industries in the area.
In recent years, it has grown so much in terms of tourism that it has become a must-see destination, the most important point of interest being its castle, which is always open for visits.
Incidentally, this year it won the competition that is held every year on the RAI television channel, and became the most beautiful village in Italy, it was chosen from about thirty Italian villages.
