Yes, penguins in Japan. You really have to see them.

Of course, our cute friends can't be found in the Japanese wilderness, but in the Nagasaki Penguin Aquarium, which was really worth the trip. On the one hand, because I am very fond of penguins, and on the other hand, because the whole facility was very pleasant and yet came across as typically Japanese. Located directly at the sea and only a short drive from the city center of Nagasaki brought us to the kingdom of the tuxedo lovers. We were lucky to arrive on a weekday outside the vacations and therefore it was rather quiet there and we could look around without being pushed and shoved.

Ja genau, Pinguine in Japan. Auch so etwas muss man gesehen haben.

Natürlich sind die possierlichen Freunde nicht in freier Wildbahn anzutreffen, sondern im Nagasaki Penguin Aquarium, aber dieser Abstecher war es wirklich wert gemacht zu werden. Einerseits, weil ich für Pinguine sehr viel übrig habe und dann auch, weil die ganze Anlage sehr angenehm und doch auch wieder typisch japanisch rüberkam. Direkt am Meer gelegen und nur eine kurze Fahrt von der Innenstadt und schon ist man im Reich der Frackträger. Wir hatten das Glück, an einem Wochentag außerhalb der Ferien hier aufzuschlagen und deshalb war es in der ganzen Anlage auch eher ruhig und mit konnten uns gemütlich und ohne angedrängelt zu werden hier umschauen.

Ein bisschen Lehrstunde darf natürlich auch sein, denn über Pinguine gibt es für uns gehobene Zweibeiner doch noch eine ganze Menge zu erfahren, die meisten diesen befrackten Burschen sind nämlich viel kleiner, als meist angenommen, aber dadurch nicht wenig putzig und liebenswert.

Here the little rascals have a nice spacious outdoor area with a private beach and of course a roofed sheltered domicile, where they are invited to feast several times a day. And they all follow and join the parade.Of course there has to be a bit of pushing and shoving, you want to get the best fish and not have to settle for the leftovers. We all know this from your own life.

Die kleinen Flitzer haben hier eine nette großzügige Außenanlage mit abgestecktem Privatstrand und natürlich auch ein überdachtes behütetes Domizil, in dem mehrmals am Tag zur Fütterung aufgerufen wird. Und wie sie alle folgen und sich artig in die Parade einreihen. Natürlich muss ein bisschen Schubsen und Drängeln auch sein, man möchte ja gefälligst den besten Fisch abbekommen und sich nicht mit den Resten begnügen müssen. Man kennt das ja aus dem eigenen Leben.

And as mentioned at the beginning, you realize that you are still in Japan. Besides the rather entertaining penguin show and the numerous educational material, there are also several displays that pay homage to the holy penguin in a very special but also charming way. Stuffed animals and figurines, towels, toys and other lovable tinnef was collected by many diligent hands and arranged that it is a real splendor. The big penguin would have been delighted, and I think especially the many little visitors are having there fun too.

Und wie schon Eingangs erwähnt, merkt man auch an diesem Ort, dass man immer noch in Japan ist. Neben der eher seriösen Pinguinschau und den vielen Lehrtafeln gibe es dann noch etliche Schaukästen, in denen dem heiligen Pinguin auf ganz spezielle aber doch auch charmante Art und Weise gehuldigt wird. Stofftiere und Figürchen, Handtücher, Aufsteller und sonstiger liebenswerter Tinnef wurde hier von vielen fleißigen Händen zusammengetragen und drappiert, dass es eine wahre Pracht ist. Der große Pinguin hätte seine Freude gehabt, und ich denke besonders die vielen kleinen Besucher auch.

Speaking of small visitors: At the end next to the exit in the Aquarium's own store, their wish list will probably suddenly become longer and longer. If you are not allowed to take a real penguin home with you, mummy and daddy should at least not be so stingy now and finally pull out their wallets. Penguin souvenirs of all coulers wait here for young and old and don't want to spend their whole life here in this store. They want to be set free and experience the big wide world for themselves. "Buy me!" it screams here from all corners, but of course such an aquarium must also be financed and maintained so I completely dig it. Therefore such shops simply belong to such places and it also managed to draw another smile into my my already happy face.

Appropos kleine Besucher: Spätestens am Ausgang im Aquarium-eigenen Shop wird der Wunschzettel wahrscheinlich plötzlich länger und länger. Wenn man schon keinen echten Watschler mit nach Hause mitnehmen darf, sollen Mutti und Papi wenigsten jetzt nicht so geizig sein und endlich die Geldbörse zücken. Pinguin-Souvenirs aller Couler warten hier auf Groß und Klein und wollen nicht ihr ganzes Leben hier in diesem Shop versauern, sondern endlich auch einmal selber die große weite Welt erleben. "Kauf mich!" schreit es hier aus allen Winkeln, aber so eine Aquarium muss natürlich auch erst einmal finanziert und unterhalten werden, deshalb gehört so etwas wohl einfach dazu und hat jedensfalls bei mir zum Ende noch ein weiteres Lächeln in mein Gesicht gezaubert.

And yes, here at the Nagasaki Penguin Aquarium, they also cater for your other needs and offer plenty of food and drinks,which is simply a must in Japan. We were still quite full from breakfast, but what I often find most appealing when the weather is fine is a delicious soft ice cream. Here in the Far East we are often offered not only the standard ones, but also several other interesting and usually delicious varieties. I only mention Macha ice cream!

Natürlich wird auch hier im Nagasaki Penguin Aquarium ausreichend für das leibliche Wohl gesorgt, weil gutes Essen gehört in Japan nun einmal einfach dazu. Wir waren noch gut gesättigt, aber was mich bei gutem Wetter oft am meisten anschmeichelt, ist ein leckeres Softeis, von dem man hier im fernen Osten oft nicht nur die üblichen Verdächtigen, sondern auch noch etliche andere interessante und meist leckere Sorten angeboten bekommt. Ich sage nur, Macha-Eis!!

So das war es für heute aus Nagasaki, einer wirklich interessanten und einladenen Stadt im Süden Japans. Ich bin bald wieder zurück mit neuen Bildern und Eindrücken aus dem Land der aufgehenden Sonne, als schaltet mir ja nicht um.
