Jayna read aloud, sitting on her bed, excited by the answers she was finding of the fetus' connection to the world. She was pregnant and worried about what made the connection between mother and fetus possible, but more specifically, between the fetus and the human.

"Ron, this is important, pay attention," she told her bored husband, "Since we were implanted in the womb, we've been feeling, sensing, thinking, learning, which means that our nervous system is permanently activated. When a connection is formed, the neurons come together and are able to attract or repel each other. When they connect, they leave a small cleft in the middle, which is synaptic space."

So much information! Some things I will have to research further and some things I will have to find someone to translate into simpler terms, but I can already understand that the baby in my womb is already connecting with the world. Its brain in the process of formation is not static, is like a kind of magnet that attracts and repels and creates bonds untouched, - she said to herself.

(End of five minutes)

And he continued in a low voice: How strange is that? "Untouched", but they still cross information, yet the process is fast because when I was scared because I almost fell, the baby felt my fear as a threat and didn't stop moving, as if scared.

"Ron... hear this: the fetal stage and early childhood is when we learn to be human, thanks to synaptogenesis. Can you imagine how a fetus feels when it's unwanted? And even worse... when the pregnancy has to be terminated?"

Her husband looked at her, angry, as he said, "Stop, woman, can't you see I'm watching TV, read to yourself and don't comment."

But, she continued: "I once saw a documentary called 'The Cries of Silence', where they presented the desperation of a fetus in the face of the threat of being surgically aborted, it seemed like a hunt where the prey was the baby... It was horrible!"

And, seeing him so absorbed and distant, she said: "Sorry Ron, but this is important to me, the baby belongs to both of us, don't leave me alone with this"

He looked at her more relaxed and drew her in, pouting: "So, synaptic what? Does what? Oh, wow, that's a lot for me to take in, Jayna... A hug and a kiss on the belly is enough, for you and the baby?"

If you want to know more about the synapse, there is a lot of information about it, but I consulted hereto bring some real scientific knowledge to the fiction

Wow - the science alone would rivet me - the "bored" husband, the mother so keenly aware of her baby in utero - this is great!!!

When a connection is formed, the neurons come together and are able to attract or repel each other. When they connect, they leave a small cleft in the middle, which is synaptic space."

I've seen videos like the one Jayna describes. It's horrific.
The embryo does swim and dart and show a powerful survival instinct.

Yes, how awful. I have no words to describe the anguish that comes from just empathizing with the creature.

Mostly this makes me joyful, but those bits about a threatened fetus feeling the fear do not! As a woman who has borne three babies, I know that the connection is immediate, I knew when I was pregnant soon after, and once from the moment of conception. Great use of the prompt.

Thank you, my dear @owasco! You're empathetic and you connect easily, which is a gift. But there are many people who don't, including women who find out they are pregnant almost before they give birth. And there are also others who don't want to be mothers and strongly reject the life that is engendered within them. Imagine that creature...
