To me a comedy is not a funny person but an act. A comedian is also not per se funny. At times they are more political and most of all boring. On New Years Eve there's alwaus a comedian asked to talk about the past year and they became terrible during the past 40 years. I start to believe humour is dead.
Well, you are right. But, that is applied to a certain period of time. Or, a certain comedians.
Do you remember Charlie Chaplin and Mr. Bean?
They were both aim to be funny. At the same time, there is a message to be delivered to the audience.
I think comedy has evolved a lot. In some countries more than others. Plus, it takes shape of the culture that it is in.

Charlie Chaplin had a message? I never discovered one. What was it?

Not in that way.. LOL. It is just that there are some of his act that shows something that is in the culture at times. In that sense, he could be shedding the light on something.
Anyway, what I am saying here is that comedy itself has evolved to what it is today.
