It was a beautiful Tuesday afternoon and Umunze village was very quiet apart from the ocassional chirps from birds and bleats from goats and sheep here and there. And on such a quiet afternoon Amanze the richest nan in all the seven kingdoms was relaxing under the shade of the mango tree in his compound as he sipped the tasty palm wine from Ejike the greatest palm wine tapper.

Amanze is the richest man in all the seven kingdoms and his fame as the most successful farmer had spread far and wide. He has the biggest barns in the land where he stores the giant tubers of yam harvested from his farmlands, his livestock is also doing tremendously well, he has over a thousand goats and sheep, not to talk of the cows and the bulls.

Amanze sat in his compound thinking about how wealthy he has become and thanking his ancestors for how the gods has favoured him.

All of a sudden there was noise all over the place, voices of children screaming, Amanze tried ignoring the noise, but it was getting louder and louder, he really needed to enjoy his afternoon in peace, and so he got up and started heading towards the source of the noise.

On getting there he saw Ikemba his son sitting astride another boy on the floor, pumelling the unfortunate boy with blows and stuffing the boy's mouth with grass shouting at the boy to chew the grass.

Amanze was furious, he had warned Ikemba not to fight again but he wouldn't listen, in fact he never listens to anybody. Amanze stepped in, and lifted Ikemba his son away from the boy on the floor, and then shouted down the other children who were standing there watching the two boys fight.

Amanze took his son inside while the battered boy followed his friends as they helped him home. Amanze wanted to know why they had to fight and all Ikemba could say was that the boy needed to be taught a lesson.

Amanze was speechless, he raised all his children well, he has ten children and all of them were doing well apart from ikemba who is a no good. He goes about the village beating up children, he has refused to go to school to acquire the white man's knowledge, and whenever he is forced back to school, he would go there cause problems and would either be suspended or completely expelled from school.

Ikemba was indeed the blacksheep of the family and it was really a thing of concern to his parents. He is always bringing shame and disgrace to the family and Amanze was really getting fed up with the boy's excesses.

Something must be done real quick else this boy would one day put his respectable name to perpetual disgrace, he needs to think out something and save his name before it becomes too late.
