Freewrite - After a 5 Day Hospital Stay.......

in Freewriters5 years ago

It's been a little disturbing month and start of the year. As I mentioned in my earlier posts that my husband landed up with his Myasthenia crises and we have been running around since then. There was a lot of confusion that happened. At one point of time the doctor mentioned that it was a throat condition which got aggravated, but then after treating for the throat also the problem still persisted and he was having a lot of difficulty in talking and eating and eventually it also came down to breathing and then finally we had to shift him to hospital.

He has been having the condition of Myasthenia since last 2.5 years and it was well under control with a regularized diet and a balanced lifestyle, but in the last 2 months we have been travelling and also a lot of outings and socializing in which the diet went for a toss, also the chilled climate added up to his condition and this time his throat came into a crises situation. In the last attack he had, it was his walking and drooping of the eye lids which was the effect. In every crises situation the symptoms are different and hence it becomes difficult for us to identify if it is just a general health condition or a Myasthenia crises.

This time the condition had worsened up so we had to get him hospitalized, other wise previously just medication had helped stabilized his condition. Myasthenia sadly has no complete cure, but just therapies to control the condition. Thankfully there are some good therapies that have come up in the recent times which is helping a lot. The best is to control this autoimmune condition through lifestyle and diet and natural therapies but in crises situation these do not really work as the body immunity goes down at a very rapid pace and the body gives up very fast, Natural therapies take time to work and it is not enough to keep up to the pace of depletion that happens. The 2 most effective medical treatments for the condition are Plasmapheresis, a process that filters the blood and removes harmful antibodies. It is a procedure similar to dialysis and the other one is Immunoglobulin, it is made from human blood plasma. It contains antibodies against many viruses, which helps strengthen the immune system to fight infections and stay healthy.

We decided to go for the Immunoglobulin therapy as it is a non invasive IV treatment. It takes time to show the effect compared too Plasmapheresis, but then this was the very first time so we were little skeptical for any invasive treatments. The effect of this treatment would take around 10 to 15 days to show up on the body. The treatment was for 5 days in the hospital through IV, The first 2 nights were very restless, he had difficulty in breathing, so they gave some oxygen support and we were up almost 24 hrs of the day but gradually by day 3 he settled a bit and managed to get some sleep. It's 6 days now and we are back home today. He is much better, I can say around 40% and within the next few days hopeful to see him back to normal health.
The doctor has mentioned that the effect of this treatment would stay for around 2 to 3 years, so we are hoping for the best and for sure now we would again get back to our required diets and other natural therapies to build up on his immunity.
The Hospital where the treatment happened has been very nice and I have thankfully had a very pleasant experience with the Doctors. The Nurses have been extremely helpful. Nevertheless it is a very very expensive treatment but then now I am just hoping that it works in it's best capacity and he gets back to normal health.

We both have been away from work this whole month. Though I have managed to keep myself up on Steemit, but it has been challenging. Now that we are back home and he is progressing I am hoping that it will all settle down and we will gradually get back to our routines. Hopefully by next weekend we should be able to travel back to Muscat and life should get back to normal.

I hope that he is feeling much better now!

Hi @nainaztengra maybe your husband can use those oxygen concentrator machines to help him breathe.
I pray for his recovery and hastened healing.

Thanks for sharing your experience with us!
