The Toilet Seat Initiative (Freewrite: Toe Jam)

"I'd like you all to take a look at our new health and safety initiative."

Health and safety is a good thing. Some might disagree, but that is not today's problem.

The problem concerns the oval shape on the PowerPoint slide. The one with the writing all around it.

"It looks like a toilet seat."

"It doesn't look like a toilet seat," said Gary.

Gary is the one taking the meeting.

"Yes, it does," replies Jon.

"It is an oval. What must you be thinking? Nobody else sees a toilet seat."

There is a pause.

Gary realises that he might need to check.

"Be honest, does this look like a toilet seat?"

Some nod quietly, enough for Gary to realise.

"Ok, I'll better get it changed. I thought it was an oval. I should have done my market research."

Gary realises something else. He's ordered 2,000 copies from the reprographics department. In colour.

"Ok, please wait a few minutes. I'd better cancel the printing order."

He tries to ring

"There's no answer, I'd better run down there."

Gary leaves.

Whilst everyone else is waiting, Jon needs to ask

"Does it really look like a toilet seat? Are we just being over the top?"

Gary knocks on the door of the reprographics department. That is a general rule for everyone, regardless of their position.

The door opens

"Did you print those copies?" asked Gary.

"Which one?"

"Which one? I thought I only had one order."

"Two."

"Did you print the toilet seat one?" asked Gary.

"There was no toilet seat one. One was of an oval. The other one had a horrible foot fungal picture."

"Did you print any of them?"

"Yes. One of them."

"Which one?" asked Gary.

"Let's go and take a look."
