My Uncle Thomas... The Two Bit Chiseler :>)
There he goes. At it again. Thomas really is getting quite good at it. Has students. Is known in sculpture circles around the world. Is published in "Sculpture Magazine". Has yet to amass a fortune but his pieces can sell for a good price at art shows. He had one of an elephant carrying a monkey that sold for $1500. But he does still have to keep his job with the post office for a little while longer. He can retire in a few years and devote all his time to his art form.
He's a wonderful person. Very friendly and ready to help anyone that approaches him in need. He tried establishing an art community and purchased a rather large house with six rooms for the other artists to live. But it didn't pan out. Only his musician brother and his wife came for a little while until they got their own place. Now he has downsized. Made a couple bucks on the sale of the big place and lives pretty much in a cabin with a workshop attached.
He's happy enough just to be able to try to create images in stone. I think it gives him a sense of creating something that can stand the test of time more so than any other medium.
He lives quite a distance away from us. I visited once a while ago and would love to go back for another visit. Make some dahl, rice, subji and chapattis offer it to Krishna and invite his brother, my other uncle and his wife and share a nice meal. We're all getting older quickly. So I better not wait too long to go.

It was a great idea for sure. A commune of artists and musicians. Thomas was stuck with huge house very disappointed but moved on.
