Who Wins?

If you want to be successful on Steemit, you have two options: Be an investor and buy Steem or invest in engagement and writing and earn Steem and... invest it (powerup).

The P Plagiarist(8).jpg

Two weeks passed after the question was asked:

How should Prizes on Steemit be divided?
Behind the screens, this is discussed more than once. Out of experience, I can tell you that within one community admins and moderators do not unanimously decide. If it comes to it moderators are the working horses and do not always take part in 'meetings'. They moderate in a certain way and follow the rules set by the administrators. Admins can change the rules, they decide, can ignore advice and indeed do so and yes, even the rules set in a contest are changed halfway without telling the moderators. What this means, who will take the fall you can think out yourself.

The "Monkey Business" Comment Contest made three things clear (my opinion and you can read here what is discussed).

  1. Although many complain on this platform about the unfair divide of prizes hardly no one left a comment!
This means: Sorry, but your complaints can no longer taken seriously. Can be you are afraid for what might happen but ask yourself why a handful of Steemians should worry and fight about your recognition while you play the keyboard hero.

  2. The reply to a comment was: This indeed weighs heavily on the minds of contest organizers and troubles them more than the participants.
This remark made me think and by now I believe it is true. So my advice to hosts of contests and those paying prizes is to reward what makes a good read to you and if it's always the same person so be it. There's no point, lesson, in rewarding bad content it doesn't inspire plus it gives a bad example and creates suspicion. I also noticed that a bad writer rarely improves, s/he's even too lazy to edit and the average answer is "next time".
It's fine with me if you do not follow the rules set, I am here with you but unlike you, I am also fine if I do not win!

  3. Greed & Envy
Both are not strong enough to make the one who suffers from it think "I will beat them!"
I guess throwing mud, badmouthing and even threatening on social media and in real life is easier than investing time in writing and asking yourself: What can I do, how can I improve, Who can I ask for help to promote myself?

Note: Let's be clear: Always the same Steemians actively support, help others and invest many hours per day and night to search for good content. Imagine they stop. Ifthey work hard, write great content to my opinion that should be rewarded. If they don't grow their support will stop. Why? Their CSI will not remain high if the same Steemians receive an upvote! If I would end there I would stop joining a club, helping others and concentrate mainly on investing only.

If you like it or not Steemit is a platform for investors, busy people. They lack the time to search for committed Steemians, good content writers willing to invest.
Will a prize help you grow or is it engagement that will make your name known and brings you fame?

How should Prizes on Steemit be divided?

Parts of text underneath are cited comments and translated by deepl.com where needed.

WHO ARE THE CONTEST WINNERS?
The winner of the contest is of course anyone who meets the criteria set by the contest organiser. The organiser is free to determine the criteria or rules to be set, participants must follow them.
HOW DOES THE ORGANISER DETERMINE THE WINNER OF THE CONTEST?
This goes back to the objectivity of the contest organiser when assessing the posts submitted. Whether the post has fulfilled all the criteria set. All criteria have certainly gone through a dialogue process with the team and certainly refer to the general rules.

Sadly, too many paid to post forum have been destroyed by AIs written texts because users weren't committed enough to rack their brains for their own comments and topics.

If you're rewarding 10 steems, then 5 steems are appropriate for writers who have an "out of the box" idea, which corresponds to the writer's hard work and creativity. While the rest can be flexible. Fair does not have to be equal but proportional according to what is produced.

The winner is the one who fulfils the criteria set.

There is one fact that I experienced that a good post will find its own curator without having to be mentioned as a winner.

I want to start by remembering that steemit is a social network, where posting anything gives us the right to be rewarded, we also have a score called reputation that should guarantee us support....
The rewards of the curators are to a select group, they should be more equitable, because investing time here is the most valuable thing we can give.
As for the contests, the prizes depend on the creator of the contest, he is the one who decides who wins, he is the one who decides which participation is good and deserves the prize, now there are SEC contests, these have other rules to gain transparency, although it is not so, because these challenges have become something boring, in contests where friends win, you win empty participations and where cronyism reigns, the SEC is the corrupt policy of steemit, it hurts to say it but it has become so.

Prizes on Steemit is all about hard work and constant because hard works surely pays and every hustler has his or her own pay day.
The good ones, we can learn from them always deserve prizes because each time we learn something from them.

In my point of view contest reward meaning is to give a kind of appreciation to those users who participated in contest by focusing on his own creativity without use of AI or without making any plagriarised content and use high quality and in depth knowledge and proper grammar, along with that most creative and original images.

I think the organizer of this contest should award the price to one who obeys the following principles:
Markdown Styling GuideSteemit
Template policyUse
of copyright words appropriately, tagging the source.
Respect to contest bodies
CSI catalog

There are no easy answers.I'm quite sure that the colleague who so explicitly emphasises good MarkDownStyle and even (fair?) distribution has got a few things wrong.
This Mark Down fuss makes any post, no matter how good, hard to bear for me. I'm generally in night mode and would like to have only white text apart from the black background. Okay, due to the format of the platform, I'd like a few photos now and again. That's enough. Graphics, screamingly colourful designs, signatures and GIFs drive me crazy. Please: go to TikTok!
Justice is another matter. I choose as winners the most successful entries, regardless of their club affiliation, CSI or winning frequency. But I also give a little recognition to all other participants. Is that fair? I don't know! It just feels right to me: Reward quality and encourage effort

Sincerity is not pleasant to everyone's ears: NOTE: I also do not believe I am the owner of the truth, since it is very changeable. But, as far as the verdicts of the competitions are concerned, I have to say the following:
Contest organizers must master the topics they promote. That is, if it is a creative writing contest; The promoters must be writers or, at least, good readers of fiction, poetry, essays... If this is not the case, there is a risk of "erroneously valuing and qualifying" the users' participations.
Now, these erroneous "verdicts" generate discontent in good writers; who tend not to participate in this type of contest, since those who serve as judges are not qualified to properly evaluate their writings. Can a teacher administer an exam to his students without mastering the content that he has to evaluate? The answer is no.

Sometimes when it comes to verifying a post there are those who go more for form than substance and perhaps don't even handle the topic.
The assumption that is used a lot now is that people don't like to read or short attention spans, that shouldn't happen on a blogging platform.
It's false that people in general don't like to read, and assuming their attention spans are short, the less they practice reading rich text the lower it will be.
It's the same with justification, it can't be that the comment to a creative text is a markdown thing like justifying paragraphs.
I've even seen people asking for creativity, but they don't seem to recognise it even if I put the high beams on it.

Of course those who are creative and follow all the rules and he will also be considered by the jury (those who are creative and good spelling in writing) does not matter he has already won.
If the selection of winners is required who have never won the title then there is no need for creative, plagiarism-free

Win And Win Again
In my opinions, everyone deserves to win every time they beat another contestants in a fair fight. And if the hosts started to feel "bored" of them, I think the hosts have all the rights to banned them from any contest, permanently or temporarily.

Whoever makes the best content deserves to win, but this is at the mercy of whoever reads it, that is to say, it may be that for you the content is rubbish but for the contest organiser it is gold, so I think there are other rules to balance the scales when choosing a winner, although the worst thing is cronyism, those who are friends of the contest organiser win, that's bad.

The winner is the main goal because it involves honour and pride, it is better to die than surrender that's how it happens in nature all animals will fight for their territory.
Of course to the winner, who is called the winner? he is the one who has completed all the tasks required in a competition or contest and he is also the consideration of the jury to be fair free from cheating.

The organisers will give the prize to those who really write creatively and who fit the category of the question.

One thing is true, the contests are a user's own, the same users can win if they are good and are also your friends, but in the SEC should not be so, because there are stories of participants and I think that friendship should be left aside and be impartial, I think that in the SEC should not be repeated winners because of 120 publications there must be many good ones to make the mistake of putting to win the same ones.
I have seen that they put to win users who do not write anything, even once won a user who had no interaction and that's horrible.

Talking about justice, we will find many different interpretations. For me, fairness is not necessarily sharing the same amount of money but it should be adjusted to the results of hard work.

I really like your principle, which is more concerned with the quality of the post and is the top priority, without worrying about the number of words, CSI and others.

This indeed weighs heavily on the minds of contest organizers and troubles them more than the participants. Consider their burden: they gather funds to finance the contest, then use their creativity to formulate it, and finally, fairly determine the winners.
Steemit's most fundamental spirit : originality and creativity. But, "If everyone is already original and creative (and complies with all contest prerequisites and conditions), then how?" I think organizers surely have the intuition (that should be respected) as a group capable of comparing quality (that's why judges are called "Your Honor"). Therefore, I agree more with rewards being distributed based on quality ranking.

Above parts of the comments and replies

(we talked about the pro and contra of different rewarding methods). It is not my experience the animo to join is higher if the prize increases.

Easy contests and high prizes to make more Steemians join? Not even that will do the trick and I doubt if easy contests help to increase the quality of the written word. To my opinion it does not and the only reason why these contests exist is to create more active users within a short time. Good for the community to be noticed and receive extra benefits.

High prizes only? There are so many contests and the first contests most will join are those where the chance of a bigger upvote is an option. Realistic? Will that upvote ever arrive? There are different and more effective ways to grow if you set aside the hope for an upvote and focus on the contests/communities with a guaranteed prize/support.

I upvote comments and (good) entertaining stories. @hive-169911 is my hive (community). I will grow its SP to upvote stories only. Please, do NOT post in it, it's for invited story writers only!
If you wrote something good you can tag me, original (no AI-written) stories/tales only. You do not need to join a club to be read and upvoted and you can post wherever you like. I suggest the freewriters or @hive-107855 the Dream Steem. Use the tag # story

It is really an interesting article to read, I saw you have collected all the responses to the "main question". Apart from that, my question is "How it is gonna work on a larger scale (steemit as a whole).

Let's see back then in 2018, participants could win multiple times as long as the entry was really that good to be chosen. At that time the organizer of the contest was not only a community leader but everyone who sought fun on the platform. I feel that the old-time contests were much more creative with very little prize pool, but yes the participants were not as many as in recent times.

Getting attention from whales is far beyond imagination, they focus on making the best they can, and the rest they can buy big fat upvotes from bot service when they like it. At that time whales really looked for good quality and they had their own team to look for it in the whole platform.

Then....how we can change it, do we have time to change it and make a fairer way in the future?

This is really interesting because, at some point I was confused how the host manage to select a winner of the contest. I think everyone join contest with the hope of getting something in return. I understand the fact that we try as much as possible to make our post quality and engaging but at the end, we got nothing out of it, we might felt discouraged or blaming the host. As for the winner of a contest, if the contestant met the criteria and the rules, he may likely to emerge as a winner. I love this, keep it up. You said something about using markdown which I will like to you highlight it a little bit. What do you think about using markdown?

It all depends on the type of contest who wins. Hosts do nkt akways decide, it can be the community (administrators) or there are other rules set for example if it comes to SEC contests.

There are plenty of times other prizes are set for the best commenter, for the most active member and so on. That's fine and a stimuli but it has to be ckear WHY this award is given.

A terrible writer should not believe he is the best writer on Steemit. AlsoI do find it a big shame if good writers never win.
Why jiun if this is the case? A goid writer is not born. We all learned the alphabetand how to write. If Steemit wants more good writers it will be a problem if they are ignored.

I understand the fact that we try as much as possible to make our post quality and engaging but at the end, we got nothing out of it

True. For example if I write 20 minutes it takes me 8 hours to edit, pictures, markdown and so on. For a platform like Steemit that's rediculous. And what is the piint if no one reads you, you cannot win?

if the contestant met the criteria and the rules, he may likely to emerge as a winner.

It should be that way but... It's often not the case. Why not? How come someone not sticking to any rule wins?

What do you think about using markdown?
I use a mobile phone and it doesn't look good what I see. I find the tempmates ugly, the red hurts my eyes and so do all the capital letters.
Many photos do not fit to the text. I go for text, and as a freewriter I find it unnecessary. By now I use it but even with my own template it takes way longer than just typing.

I like to hear your opinion. If it's that important Steemit should change the site so text automatically looks good.
