Steemit Engagement Challenge S5-W2: Natural Disaster In My Place
All hope was lost in Kerala, India on 16th August 2018, as the water filled up the streets, our houses and the whole state. A time where every Malayali was helpless waiting for a miracle to save their lives when they were trapped all alone in the terrace of their own house. Chanting prayers through their tears, waiting to be rescued, even though many didn't make it.
This is the 2018 Kerala Flood.

It was a normal day in Kerala with the usual rainfall. People were going to their offices, children going for classes and they all carried their umbrellas. That is when people began to notice that the rain is not even stopping for a couple minutes. It seemed alright for a day or two and then everyone began to panic.
The news started talking about Red Alerts across Kerala and the people began to freak out. The schools were shut down and so did everything else. Every member of the family stayed at home. A state of panic filled Kerala.

People rushed to the supermarkets, grocery stores and other essential stores to stack stocks for themselves. They collected only how much they needed keeping in mind that others need it too.
A flood this worse has never occurred in Kerala in the past 100 years.
This killer flood affected South India and the reason for the disaster was unusual amount of non-stop rainfall.
Not only were the households, buildings, and other properties affected, it also took nearly 500 lives. 15 people had gone missing during the flood and about a million people were moved to safety from their houses.
Red alert was placed in all 14 districts in Kerala.
The Angels who saved us
Then came the fishermen to the rescue.
4,537 fishermen along with 669 boats rowed through the flood and rescued more than 65,000 people from various districts. They saved lives by putting their own life in danger. Even though they had a choice to stay quiet and ignore the call for help, they all came together as HUMANS and joined the government to take part in the rescue mission along side the Indian army.
The Indian army played a great role in saving the people from their housetops.
The Government released 40 helicopters, 31 aircrafts, 18 medical help teams and 182 rescue teams to go into houses in the affected area and take them under their wings.
The Government also gave away free food and temporary shelter to everyone who needed it.

Conclusion
Even though people are separated into different religions, race, tribes, political tastes and other similar communities, when a problem or disaster arises that we cannot handle alone, we all join forces together as HUMANS and there exists no borders for asking for help or helping those in need.

The floods that have occurred recently are indeed very large, most countries that are experiencing the rainy season must be careful and vigilant, there are still two more months which are usually the highest rainfall, hopefully we can all survive and this disaster ends well,
