Hello friend and famz in this commuinty. It feels so good to be here again to participate in this beautiful contest organized by this commuinty. We are looking at the topic gender and the various roles they play in the society. Without mincing words,I will like to delve into it immediately.

Does gender play a role in our everyday life?

Gender as we know in order word refers to sex,sex as in Male or female. Right from the begining God created both male and female and as such I will limit my discussions to this two even though science had somehow proven that we have more than these two...that will be story for another day.

Yes gender play vital role in our everyday life. There are certain activities we engage in daily that requires the input of a particular gender. By design,the male gender are stronger and agile than the female gender.

This should give us a glimpse of where this discussion is going already. It means certain activities are not given to a female gender because of their fragile nature.

Let me give you an example. I could remember some months back,there was this job vacancy in one organization in my location. A male and a female were needed to take up the available space.

Now one of the Job description was to write and document things,more like the duty of a clark or secretary while the other was to load up and offload goods (papers of different kind) and take stock.

For the latter job description, a male was needed for it and then a female for the former. The reason is not far fetched,the inherent ability (strength) of the male is what is needed to execute the job while the female who doesn't have this ability was required to take up the former.

We can clearly see from this explanation that the gender we have play different roles in our everyday life. Let's move on to the next question.

How does the role or function in your country differ from gender to gender?

It is true that the role or function of a gender differ from one country to another. I am from Nigeria,the giant of African. We have our way of life here even though there is a lot of diversity,we still have a common ground for the for roles of each gender in the society.

A woman in this part of the world is deemed to be an help meet or an assistant and as such she is not saddled with the responsibility of a man who is suppose to be the one with the major responsibility.

To understand the statement made above,I will like to use the Concept of a home. A home comprise of a man,a woman and the children. Now the focus is on the man and the woman. The man is the one who control and rules the affairs of the home while the woman functions as the help meet.

God designed the male gender such a that he can shoulder the responsibility of the home to a very appreciable extent the remaining part which balances the equation is fixed by the female gender. It is safe to say that the male gender incomplete without the female gender.

The male is naturally and usually the bread winner in this part of the world except for few cases where life pushes certain female into taking up the responsibilities that belongs to a man. A woman is not suppose to work her finger to the bone to feed and maintain the family when she has a responsible man around.

Her work and input should be minimal and moderate as it concerns the running of the family. She already has alot to fix herself. A responsible man takes such burdens off the woman. This is not to say the woman will not work or bring something to the table,she will,failure to do this means she is not functioning in the light of the helper she is supposed to be in the first place.

In this part of the world,the woman also coordinate the home and runs affairs in the kitchen. Although this is not their sole responsibility as they are not in the house as a slave to the male gender.

It is just one of the duty that neccessity laid upon the female folks in this part of the world. A woman who fails to be very diligent in this aspect tend to get a tongue lash from people in the society because of our belief system.

A responsible man also comes in once in a while to join her in carrying out these activities just to show that he loves and appreciate all she does.

Is it the same for other countries?

Well,I just shared how both gender function in my country here. I believe it quite different in other country but there is always a common ground. One of it is in the area of physical strenght. The male gender tend to handle the difficult and phyical energy-sapping activities that requires a lot of strength.

I have also read things about countries beyond the shores of my dear country of how women tend to share the same right and privileges with the male folks. They call the movement "Gender Equality"
Well,I am not here to argue if their claim is right or wrong.

I only want to point out the fact that in such places where things like this exist, there is really no role assigned for the male gender or the female gender, since everyone is perceived to be the same which is quite different from our way of life here in Africa, Nigeria to be precise.

What about Steemit?

I love the structure here. Everyone is independent and free to act the way he or she want to provided that it doesn't negative the belief system here.

Putting up discriminating rules or giving certain undue advantage to one gender or the other would have ruined the platform long ago if it existed.

So everyone is rather seen as a "node" on the blockchain instead of a gender and then equal opportunity is given to all as they contribute to the growth and development on this platform.

Conclusion

The role of a gender differ from one society to the other. There is this saying that I think will be applicable to this subject and that is... "when you're in Rome,behave like a Roman" don't do other wise in a place where they ready have established way of life.
