How are you all doing, i trust you all are doing fine. You're welcome to steemit Engagement Challenge season 5 week 2 which was organized by @steembetterlife and the theme is Natural Disasters in My Place.

WHAT IS DISASTER?

This is an unexpected or unforseen man-made or natural event which causes physical damage, lose of life or a permanent change in the environment.

AREAS THEY AFFECTS

There are so many cases of natural disasters in my country, though the area am staying is facing a minor problems of natural disasters, which is ikot udo Abia in Etinan local government, Nigeria.

Below are some of the Photographs of affected areas, which are mainly erosions and flood.

HOW DO THEY CAUSE RUIN?

When there is a heavy rain fall all the gutters on the streets will get full and overflow into the streets, people's compounds and farm washing away the top soil.

And sometimes causes accident on the street because when all the gutters on the street are full, people driving will not know where the sides of the road ends, cause the whole road will be filled with water.

HOW ARE THE PEOPLE AFFECTED?

When all this happens and there is continuous rainfall it always displace a lot of people from their homes, and there will go and seek shelter in somewhere else.
Some will go to their relatives while others who doesn't have relatives will sleep on the street or even their shops.

And they will be a lot of property lost especially if the flood happens at night while people are sleeping, people will just wake up to see their valuable properties inside water.

THE MOST PROBABLY CAUSE OF IT

This Disaster is mainly cause by heavy rainfall, poor drainage system and poor waste management.

The erosion and all the flooding that was w are experiencing here in my country Nigeria is course by all these things that i just mention above.

WAS THERE A PRIOR ALERT FROM THE GOVERNMENT?

Yes, there was. The government always announce telling us not to dump and throw our waste anyhow on the street, and also to clear the gutters so that the won't be any obstacle or anything hindering the water from flowing well.

But you know how stubborn some people can be, some will neglect the announcement and think it's a waste of time not knowing is for their own good.

WHAT CAN YOU DO IN CASE OF SITUATION LIKE THIS

In situations like this the first thing i would do is to park my valuable properties to any of my relatives house that is safe.

Or, if it was a case of a minor flood in the compound, i would dig a very big and deep well then i create a gutter so that all the water in the compound will be channel into it.
