I had a neighbor who had given birth almost at the same time as me, her child is older than my son by a month.

Tenía una vecina que había dado a luz casi al mismo tiempo que yo, el niño de ella es mayor que mi hijo por un mes.

She always used to go out in front with her son to play just like I did with mine, but as it often happens, we fall into the situation of comparing our children with another child without realizing that every child evolves differently, either by inheritance or some difficulty he went through. I noticed that my neighbor's child spoke and said clear words while mine was not understood at all and we lived stimulating him.

Ella siempre solía salir al frente con su hijo para jugar al igual que yo salía con el mío, pero como muchas veces pasa, caemos en la situación de comparar a nuestros hijos con otro niño sin darnos cuenta que todo niño evoluciona de manera diferente, bien sea por herencia o alguna dificultad por la que pasó, me fijaba que el niño de mi vecina hablaba y decía palabras claras mientras que el mío no se le entendía nada y eso que vivíamos estimulándolo.

I decided to call and make an appointment with another well known pediatrician here in Venezuela and quite prestigious, I decide this, because I wanted to hear another medical opinion to see if they would tell me something different from what the previous pediatrician always told me.

Decidí llamar y agarrar una cita con otro pediatra muy conocido acá en Venezuela y de bastante prestigio, decido esto, porque quería escuchar otra opinión médica a ver si me decían algo diferente de lo que siempre me decía el pediatra anterior.

The day of the appointment arrives and I take the child for a consultation, the doctor evaluates him and tells me that it is not normal that he does not speak, it could be that he has a problem because he was premature, many times these children do not develop correctly.

Llega el día de la cita y llevó al niño a consulta, el doctor lo evalúa y me dice que no es normal que no hable, puede ser que tenga un problema por haber sido prematuro, muchas veces estos niños no se desarrollan de manera correcta.

He tells me that he will take him to speech therapy at a clinic with a colleague who deals with these language problems, but at that time I didn't have that much money and I decide to take him to an outpatient clinic, near my residence where there is a speech therapy practice.

Me dice que lo llevará a terapia de lenguaje en una clínica con una colega que se encarga de estos problemas del lenguaje, pero en ese momento no contaba con tanto dinero y decido llevarlo a un ambulatorio, cerca de mi residencia donde está un consultorio de terapia del lenguaje.

The specialist asked me a lot of questions, including whether the child related to other children. If we spoke to him clearly, without diminutive sounds, for example, let's go home, not to the house, in other words, no small talk.

La especialista me realizó muchas preguntas y entre ellas si el niño se relacionaba con otros niños, que si le hablamos claro, sin sonidos diminutivos por ejemplo vamos para la casa no para casita, es decir nada de hablarle chiquiteado.

We always spoke clearly to our children and also looked for strategies for their evolution, that's why the frustration and concern. We kept our appointments, when it was his turn for the consultation, the child together with the language therapist did various exercises that later at home we had to do again constantly in order to see the improvement of the child's speech.

Nosotros siempre le hablamos claro a nuestros hijos y también buscábamos estrategias para su evolución, por eso la frustración y preocupación. Quedamos asistiendo a las citas, cuando le tocaba la consulta , el niño junto a la terapista del lenguaje hacían diversos ejercicios que luego en casa teníamos que volver a ejecutar constantemente para poder ver la mejoría del habla del niño.

The doctor told us that he had dyslalia, an alteration due to being premature, he had trouble saying the words or names clearly mainly. If they have R or L, he'll have a harder time mentioning them.

La doctora nos dijo que tenía dislalia una alteración por ser prematuro, le costaba decir claro las palabras o los nombres principalmente. Si llevan R o L se le complicará mencionarlos muchísimo más.

Now we know why the older child's speech is late because of his dyslalia problem since these children omit certain sounds or substitute them for others incorrectly. Thanks first to God and then to the doctor who attended the child with her various armies and my son's constant interest in learning both in the office and at home, he managed to overcome this great challenge.

Ahora sabemos el porqué del habla tardía del niño mayor por su problema de dislalia ya que estos niños omiten ciertos sonidos o los sustituyen por otros de forma incorrecta. Gracias primeramente a Dios y luego a la doctora quien atendió al niño con sus diversos ejércitos y el constante interés de mi hijo por aprender tanto en consulta como en casa, logró superar este gran reto.

But now I have my second baby, he is three years old and he still doesn't speak because of money issues, I haven't taken him to a specialist, since nowadays we don't have public clinics with this kind of specialists due to the situation Venezuela is going through, everything is very expensive and what I really earn in my job, is barely enough to supply some basic needs with my husband's help. We have set up schedules to help the child with the exercises we used to do for the older one, but I don't see any progress. So I started doing some research on my family and my husband's family to see if this speech situation is hereditary.

Pero ahora tengo a mi segundo bebé, tiene tres años y aún no habla por cuestiones de dinero no lo he llevado al especialista, ya que hoy en día no contamos con ambulatorios públicos con este tipo de especialistas por la situación por la que viene atravesando Venezuela, todo es muy costoso y lo que gano realmente en mi trabajo, apenas alcanza para suplir algunas necesidades básicas con la ayuda de mi esposo. Nos hemos puesto horarios para ayudar al niño con los ejercicios que anteriormente le hacíamos al mayor, pero no veo ningún progreso. Así que me puse a investigar un poco sobre mi familia y la de mi esposo para ver si es hereditario está situación del habla de mis hijos.

From parts of my family they have always spoken fast and the evolution could be said to be normal. I went to my grandparents on their father's side and I find that my mother-in-law and all my husband's direct cousins have been slow to talk, so I have been a little calmer since it can be hereditary.

Por partes de mi familia siempre han hablado rápido y la evolución se podría decir que se da de manera normal. Fui con los abuelos por parte de su padre y me encuentro que mi suegra y todos los primos directos de mi esposo han tardado en hablar, así que me he quedado un poco más tranquila ya que puede ser hereditario.
