Are You Watching The Comet NEOWISE?
Skywatchers are relishing at the sight of Comet NEOWISE which has been visible in the sky the past few days. If you live in the northern hemisphere, you can spot it with the naked eye in the evening sky.
If you're not sure where to look, you can probably download a stargazing app and it will tell you the exact spot you need to look at. For better results, you can use a binocular or a small telescope.
This comet was first discovered by NEOWISE (NASA's Near-Earth Object Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer); hence the name. It was discovered on March 27 and since then, astronomers have been tracking its movement. What makes it special is that it won't be visible in the sky for the next 6800 years.
Comets are usually made of ice, rock, and dust and when they get closer to the Sun, they heat up and release their signature "tail". It is this that has mesmerized astronomers for centuries.
Infinite Beauty of The Universe
Watching the beauty of this comet, you realize just how beautiful our universe is. There is beauty in every single object if you think about it. Also, there is beauty in the very fact that the universe is so humongous that our brains can't even process its size.
I so wish technology progresses so fast that traveling in space becomes as common as air travel. I wish to go to space, the moon, and possibly even Mars during my lifetime. It would be an experience of a lifetime.
When I watch science fiction movies about space, I can't help but feel a little sad. Sad that technology is just not there yet where you could freely float in space for as long as you like without having to worry about anything.
Just imagine... being able to watch a nebula up close or even a black hole! Or being able to witness the intense events and phenomena that take place in the cosmos all the time! I am sure thousands of years from now, this sorta thing will become commonplace. What a future that would be to exist in!!
