Steem4Nigeria Engagement Challenge Season 5, Week 1 - Elections In My Country
Another day has come for me to take part in season 6 of the steam it engagement challenge contest here in this very community on the theme” Election in my country" it is no longer news that each country has there ways in which election is being conducted, some at some point don't conduct election in their country but as the case maybe they will have some ways in which they select their leaders. I am a Nigerian and I'm so glad to share with the world about elections in my country.
Tell us the governance type in your country and how effective you think it has been in running the country's affairs. |
---|
In my country election has been one of the prominent and effective activities of politics as it entails the act of leadership to rule amongst various political parties involved, country like Nigeria practices a democratic system of government having the judiciary, legislative, and Executive as the tier system of government been run and also involves electing a political party, though many parties come on election day with their candidate of choice to be voted for depending on the position or post wanting
Two parties are very powerful and have been ruling the country's affairs for quite a long time interchangeable between the two depending on votes from the people, these parties are the Peoples Democratic Party (P.D.P) and the All Progressive Congress (A.P.C) having their symbols as for the P.D.P it's an umbrella while the A.P.C a broom. Both parties outshine every other party in Nigeria as they tend to be strong and of longtime exiting of which many people support choices, although the birth of A.P.C was from some issues of misunderstanding in P.D.P. In running the country's affairs now, presently it's the A.P.C ruling with the administration notion of the President. Muhammadu Buhari trying his best in all possible ways to make sure things go smoothly and greatly for the benefit of the people without doubt of any kind.
The process of effective administration has been quite good and impressive as it tries to tackle insurgents and other illegal criminal activity in the country, democracy gives equal rights and freedom of speech as it is a government for the people and by the people at large.
What are the election methods employed in your country and do you consider them effective? Do you also participate in the Exercise? |
---|
presidential detail aspirants will have to go through primary elections in the various political parties, and the aspirant that wins will be the flag bearer of that political party. All the political parties present one candidate they are sure is fit to pilot the affair of the cherry. They are further saddle responsibility of electing reliable formate form candidates presented by the various parties.
For a country like Nigeria, the methods used before the coming of a voters card were manual whereby one just go and vote and it's been written on paper, it all changed when the introduction of a voters card came and so everybody in the country needed to register in other to be enabled for voting which was a Permanent Voters Card (P.V.C), without it, you won't be let to vote, though it was difficult for some people to use but had no choice than to do it. It was later advanced by using a card reader which could give accurate information on the number of people that cast their votes to avoid illegal results of voters.
For one to participate in an election you have to be 18 years old, and above and it's a necessary act for every citizen to comply, I do participate because it's my right and my obligation to do so
Share your recent experience in participating in one. Rate the process- fair, good, or bad. |

My last experience was 4 years ago when I did in my locality it was a smooth but crowded place where many people gathered to indulge in it, I was pleased with the way the election committee conducted the process as it was perfect, and the people tried their best in casting votes also, there was no fight but had some little misunderstanding though it was rectified quickly and resolved. It was a free and fair one as in my polling unit everyone voted peacefully and waited for the results to be counted indicating the winner at the end without any fight or quarrel. I can say it was indeed a good experience.
Would you suggest a method of electing leaders to power? Discuss your method. |
---|
With the recent method of electing a leader to power using the vvoter'scard, I suggest the use of the online vote, I suggested this because it's safer to use and also saves time in announcing a winner in an election process, the world is changing and we ought to change with it also unless we would be left behind, this process gives room for a better free and fair elections as it won't even cause an alarm for rigging an election or stealing of ballot boxes.
Would you prefer other forms of governance different from the one you have already and why?. |
---|
In every situation there must be constant changes in it as we approach another prominent election by next year I would like to have a different kind of experience from a party that has never been into administration before to believe and hope for the best, the one in power has had its taste of the cake and it's time for the table to turn to another, we can't stick in one place but to move in developing ourselves for the betterment of the people and to the world of contributions. And so I believe that a new form of power is what fighting for peace to reign.
In conclusion, i want to invite @sahmie @mjerry and @oguzvic to come and participate in this contest.
Greetings friend. Thanks for the invite.
I see you have set your mind on something different, which enlightened me too. Unfortunately, we have been lied to but Virtually anyone who has come to rule, thus I've lost faith in both the electoral processes and the politicians at large. I am scared to even carry out my basic human right as elections are always covered in dangerous activities whereas those who assume office does just the same thing, again and again, which is looting the fund of the entire nation.
If there is Political apathy in human form, that will be me.
Humm, you have said it all dear friend, Nigerian politicians are all thesame but let keep hoping and praying for the best come 2023.
Not just you my brother most people are losing interest already but we can't seat back and do nothing let go out and vote for a better nigeria.
Best regards.
I wish I could share your optimism, but their negativities won't let me. Just so you know, they deliberately seize people's PVCs in the act of depriving them of voting.
I agree with you dear friend, the best thing to do is not getting the voters card alone but getting into the politics to influence the change we hope for.
In as much as our intention are positive, we don't work toward what is right. Apart from out PVC being seize, majority sells theirs for money. And some don't come out to vote because they believe their vote dose not count.
I see our country problem is still we the Nigerians.(let's be positive always)
May God help us shaaa.
Thanks for inviting me.
The Nigerian electoral system and governance can only get better.

You have outlined the structural democracy of the Nigerian government at a glance dear friend. Actually, the leading political parties are the APC and the PDP with recurrent campaign promises year in and year out.
Voting has also been the voice of the citizen toward electing leaders to pilot the country affairs, though a lot of expectation have been thrawn but still hoping for the best.
Thank you for sharing and for the invite expect my entry soonest.
Hola amiga.
Que bueno que tengas un país democrático, yo vivo en un país democrático pero disfrazado totalmente. Para que en un país se vean cambios y evoluciones tienen que cambiar los gobiernos.
Saludos y bendiciones!!
